I'm in a pinch here guys. I need oil tonight so I can get to work in the morning. I'm searching my local area for oil and nobody carries what I need. The only thing I can find is 0W-40 synthetic at Wal-Mart. I don't want to start an oil debate over synthetic vs. conventional... I just want to know if 0W-40 is OK to use. I've never even heard of 0W-40, will it work? And secondly, should I use it? Thanks in advance,

should be great @ start up and a 40 weight when hot. Don't see a down side to using it. Mobil 1 0w40 is the only oil that can be used the chrysler crossfire 3.2 liter v6 engines which is actually a Mercedes engine and they go 500,000 miles no problem. I know not apples to apples, but info to think about. Use it until u can get your hands on a motorcycle synthetic. :)

According to the guy I spoke with on the phone at Wal-Mart it was
Mobil 1 0W-40 motorcycle oil.
I think it sounds alright too, but I am hesitant to use something other than what the manual calls for.

I use the 0-40 Mobil 1 (car stuff) in my 600 in the winter (below freezing). It may be my imagination but I find it easier to kick when the temp is in the teens.

I don't run it when it's warm out, but I go about 400 or 500 miles in the winter between oil changes with no burning, clutch slippage, etc.

You will be fine with that oil. The 40 is the important number. In the aircooled 650L you want a 40 or 50 oil. The 0W means it is thin at low temperatures and the lower the better. 0W-40 is better than 10W-40 in this respect.

I run the Rotella 15W-40 stuff and it works great. I run it in all my bikes, cars, and trucks. Lower cost and I only buy one kind of oil.
