Short clutch pull

Recommended Posts

I recently installed a Barnett basket, with stock plates, fibres, and springs. Now it seems that I have a very short engagement. With the gap @ my perch set properly, only the very start of travel ( about the first 1/4 ) is useful. I know if I did the clutch arm mod, it would help, but it didn't seem that bad before. Any ideas as to why it's like this now, or how else to remedy it??

Thanks

how else to remedy it?:ride:

Thanks

I had the same problem when I bought an asv clutch lever with the perch. :bonk: I had to take three round washers and cut about 3mm off with a hack saw.The washers went at the bottom of the clutch cable where it goes through the insert hole that is molded to the engine motor.......>Its the insert that has the threads in it that the end of the clutch cable goes in.The washers go at the outside of this insert and the nut that holds the clutch cable in place goes in front of the washers. This will give you a lot more clutch pull......trust me! I did it and it works fine.? I'll try to get a pic of it and post it tomorrow night by 9:00 O'clock EST.

You are clearly not understanding what his problem is.

Yes, I am using the stock pressure plate and hub. Should I have bought a matching Barnett?

Its sticking out in my mind that it could be a factor. I know with the Hinson you can run the OEM pressure plate. Maybe you might want to look into that to be sure. There are only a few things that can affect the clutch pull, and since the basket is only piece you have changed it makes me think maybe you need the Barnett pressure plate too.

If I'm interpreting what you are saying correctly, the clutch goes from engaged to completely disengaged in a small amount of lever travel, not starting to catch until the lever is almost fully released. Yes?

The rap on the stock pressure plate, up until '07, was that it isn't stiff enough, and would cause the opposite problem.

Odd to have that problem with OEM plates. If you are otherwise happy with the clutch, you could either lengthen the release arm, as suggested, or do the '01 clutch mod, which is ordinarily something that you would need on a 2000 YZ426.

Either would correct the problem, but the lever mod would also lower the lever effort in the bargain.

I am having the same problem but my clutch is completely stock. Only have about 10 - 12 hours on it. It is killing me on the starting line. Go from sitting still to full on wheelie. Hard to get a good jump out of the gate like that. Any ideas?
