Wonder if the aftermarket will follow Yamaha's lead with the new muffler design or if they will stick to the current designs?I like the muffler shorter if they are still able to keep it quiet and make good power.

I agree, I like the short look much better, hope white brothers follows suit and shortens the carbon pro a bit. Looks like I can skip o8 for a new bike and wait for 09 as their still seams to be little improvement over 06. Probably like 03-05 small changes and then a huge change in 06. I guess we will just have to wait a year to find out. Enjoy your 08's everyone that buys them.

It's lighter and shorter. If it's also quieter I may just order a stock 2008 exhaust system for my '06.

Not much of a reason to buy yamaha in 08. I currently own the 06 250F and wanted to buy the 450 for 08 but i would feel bad buying the 08 model when it is clear that 09 will probably bring about much greater changes. Oh well.

yea the '08 has just been hyped up too much for my taste...only to have meager changes brought to it. i think '09 will be the year that yamaha tries to take the market by storm...haha the thought of a magenta SE yammi is frickin hilarious...ugh!!!

Come on fellas - think about it.....
since the YZF400 was released, every 426 2000-2002, 450 2003-2005 - the alum 450 2006-2008 share a 3yr life cycle before massive changes occur. The 00-02, 03-05 and the 06 -08 is practically the same bike with many refinements, nothing earth shattering....I expect a full refresh for 09.....with 2 more years of refinements 2009-2011.....the cycle will probably continue in this way as tooling is too expensive for a full refresh every year. :)

I completely agree. My only problem is, come october i would have been on my 06 yz250F for two years and i really think i want to give the 450 a try for the second time and sell my 250F later on this year for the new bike. I don't think i can wait out untill Sept or Oct of 2008 to move up to the 450 and where i live bike's don't get sold too quickly. Put it this way, i'm lookin for a reason to buy a YZ450 but i find it hard to when i know full well that 09 will be a big year. For that reason i'm pondering if i should go with the KTM or Honda since the Hondas sell easier where i live than almost any other brand (don't ask me why, i think people are just obsessed with the old fashioned way of thinking that honda is best still). And if i were to give the Honda (which i think should be solid for 08) a try, and then a year later yamaha comes back swinging in 09 then i'll get it sold easy and get myself a new blue bike once again. What you guys think is the best thing to do? Then agian, we haven't seen what the other companies are offering for 08 yet. I was wondering if i should just try to get a deal on an 07 Yami but then when i go to sell it one year later it won't get sold as fast as an 08 so the few hundred bucks won't be worth it. I'm confused. The joys of pondering about a new bike.

Man, you're just like me...I spend more time worrying about resale value and the "what if's" in regard to what changes the next model year might have.

Do I buy a new '06 because I can get one cheap? Do I buy a new '07 when the '08's come out? Do I pony up and buy a new '08 so I have the newest/most refined? But then the '09's will probably be a new generation with FI and then I'll be pissed that I bought an '08. But I don't want to wait until late '08 for a new bike...aaagh!

I guess that's why I am still riding an '02 426 and an '03 RM250...

OUCH.....wrong hand. :bonk:

Hey I am curious what the new larger hopefully wider footpegs look like. I wonder if they are a Stainless Steel version of the GYTR Ti pegs....those are sweet. I have been replacing all stock Yami pegs with Lightspeed SS pegs....maybe this will save a 100 bucks on down the road for 09. :)

Yeh that is my problem exactly. That's why i said if i buy an 08 it might be a different brand this year. I really like the 07 KTM 450, it corners like it's on rails and the power comes on smoothly so you don't get worn out quickly. At my level though, i'm just not sure if i'm confident in the suspension yet since i didn't ride it long enough to really tell of any quirks. The positive with going with the yamaha would be that i'm already familiar with the chassis and the way the bike feels. No matter what, its going to be a tough decision, i guess the good part is; atleast i get to make one!

I never worry abouyt next model out...
I bought my 05 in summer 05..
If I had waited a few months (maybe 6) I could have got an alu frame..
But I love my bike and the deal was sweet...
So next time when I am ready to get a bike I'll do it the same way.
If I see one I like I'll take it..
Hoping for an 08 in Sept or Oct if they are out in time. But if not an 07 will do as I expect the price will be better...

Does anyone know if the 06 and 07 exhaust systems will work on the 08???

Any of the complete systems will bolt on. They may not be optimal, since the '08 cams are different.

The '08 does have a larger diameter header than the '07, and possibly the '06, too, so slip-ons are probaly out of the question.

the 08 cams are different but if you like the 06 motor better than the 08.....Why not just swap out for some 06 cams and pipe? I'm finding i like the hit of my 06 better than the 08. Hell I was thinking of putting the 06 motor in the 08 chassis. Another thing i was noticing about the stock 08 pipe is that the headpipe is really huge to begin with and then after about 9 inches at the first weld, it gets SMALLER? This is completely opposite of what my Dr d pipe does....it progressivly "steps" up from smaller to bigger.

Up date on 06/08 pipes. The 06 muffler will fit on the 08 headpipe with a little work. You need to use the thinner gasket from the 08 where they slide together and the 08 clamp. The tangs need to be opened up a little also but everything else lines up perfect. Hope to try it out this week. I will try it three different ways/ / ) 08 headpipe,06 muffler..06 complete headpipe and muffler... and the DR D I have on my 06.
