Putt putt?

So my '85 XR600R has a sputter right off the throttle. It putts twice like a bog. Just put on a new air filter so its not that. After the putts it runs like a champ. Any thoughts?

Carbs... I believe thats a dual-carb model, right? They might not by sync'ed right. Either that, or they can use a cleaning. Those carbs can be rather finicky, if I remember right...

The rumor is that Honda dropped the duals because the dealers techs had too many troubles getting them right.

A bog or flat spot like that is usually due to a lack of fuel. Clean that carb and make really sure that all the passageways are clear. All it takes is a tiny speck at the idle mixture screw. It could be an air leak as well. Spray carb cleaner on the boot between the carb and the engine when idleing. If the rpms change thne you have a leak. 22 year old rubber can crack and leak.
