What light socket to use for tail/brake?? on 650r

What light socket do you use to convert the stock 650r tail light to a tail/brake light, with the stock lens? Part #?? thanks..

One way to do it is to use the stock socket and hook up a 10 ohm 10 watt resister on one of the leads.

This will cause the taillight to burn dimly all the time.

Then, short across the resister with your brake light switch(es). This will cause the taillight to burn brightly when you step on the brakes.

Viola! Dim normally, bright when on the brakes!

All with the stock socket!

Until I got my BajaDesigns tail light, brake light, liscense plate mount combo I just added a second socket under the stock taillight lense for my brake.

I used to do this also, works well, but vibration still took its toll on bulbs. Untill I saw this. https://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=364330&page=1&pp=10 And now use it. Brighter & so far, care free.

I removed all of the items from under the lense, and spilced in two sockets that fit the same style bulb, then I found a company that sells those style bulbs in red LEDS. Total cost of around 20 bucks. I have heard of a replacement setup that fits perfectly under the stock lense that works pretty well though.

I just looked at these and I think this is a hot setup, will likely convert mine to them as they appear brighter.

I just ordered a light kit from Dale at Trick Dual Sport. I wanted to do the same thing. Swap socket to use a 1157 bulb. Supposedly there is a socket that will fit inside the housing in place of the stock one with minimal trimming. He stated that it was a automotive part from NAPA. The bulb is a shallow globe with a 1157 base that will fit underneath the stock lens and is not close enough to melt the lens. He is going to e-mail me the NAPA part number. When I get it I will post that #

The NAPA part # is LS6114 and the best bulb is a 3496 bulb.
