What is faster? XR600 or DRZ400

Recommended Posts

DRZ400E with the suspension done right is much quicker and much easier to ride hands down. No, question at 40hp on the dyno. 628cc XR600R with 12:1 piston is much faster but, that is not stock. Both bikes are almost the same horsepower at the rear wheel but, the 600 has more torque.

I ride with a buddy that has a DRZ 400 and it feels as though the power between my 650 and the 400 are equal. Not to sure about the 600 but i dont think he can get over on me in the top end. my old 600 topped out at 102. the drz and 650 top out higher than that. bone dry stock

Not to burst anyones bubble, but a STOCK 650 tops around 98-99. Easily fixed but true. I believe there is some info in the 450 forum on the capability of the drz400.:applause:

XR400R is right at 28rwhp and uncorked, pumper carb., header/muffler, UNI 34rwhp. This is on a dyno many times. 440cc with Edelbrock, header/muffler 38.2rwhp; DRZ400S uncorked is 36wrhp, DRZ400E uncorked is 39.8 rwhp, bored to 475cc, cam, header/mufler, 46~47rwhp. XR600R (1994 right after I bought it and put a XR's only header/super trap muffler, UNI)41.6wrhp, once I went 628cc and 10.25:1 piston, milled head (almost 12:1 compression) cam, Mikuni TM38 47.4rwhp. XL650L is 30rwhp, 36~38rwhp uncorked, 10.25:1 piston, pumper carb., cam, header/muffler, more air flow 48~50rwhp. XR650R 33~34rwhp, uncorked is 44rwhp, header/muffler, more intake air flow, pumper carb., 47~49rwhp. HRC kit and the other stuff; 51~52rwhp and 680cc with everything is 55~59rwhp. Dyno's very and most inflate the number they give you to make you feel better. If you want close to Crank horsepower (bhp, at the engine) rwhp X .24 + rwhp = bhp. XR650R uncorked on the dyno (rear wheel horsepower) as said above is 44rwhp but, horsepower stated by Honda is 55bhp (Braking horsepower @ the flywheel) same bike. That is how the numbers that the makers will give you are so different from the number that you get from a dyno. Torque is not posted here and makes a big difference in the whole picture in comparing the bikes, as does the weight, suspension and response of the engine.

Something to think about......

The XR650L has a 8.2:1 piston, very mild cam, retarded timing (compared to the XR600R) and a CV Kehin Carb. These are the reasons for the low horsepower for the displacement. It does put out the same torque number as the XR600R.

AN old listing of dyno numbers and weight of bike: (Some have exhaust and intake mods)

Xr650L is 30rwhp, 36~38rwhp uncorked, 10.25:1 piston, pumper carb., cam, header/muffler, more air flow 48~50rwhp.

I cant wait to do the engine mods! I can only imagine what it will be like riding that animal.

:applause: What!?!?!?!?! xrl beating gsxr!?!?!?!:applause:

Sure I can see this.....

XL650L tricked out dry weight 324 pounds; Full of fuel ready to ride 356+ pounds. 38rwhp! Measured Power To Weight Ratio, 9.4 pounds per horsepower but, a Lot lower greaing then a 2006 GSXR1000 at 365 pounds dry weight, 408 pounds full ready to ride. Measured Peak Horsepower, 151.38 bhp @ 11200 rpm. Measured Peak Torque, 75.55 lbs. - ft. ... Measured Power To Weight Ratio, 2.7 pounds per horsepower. Some claim 168rwhp with header/ muffler and power comander. So, I can see the XR650L pulling the GSXR1000 for a 4 full feet of the race; After that the 186mph limiter in the stock computer would be a major problem!?

What brand jet thruster did you get, I was looking into GE's since most of the major airlines use them, but I'm not sure. Can you give me some advice.:applause:

yeah, I loved my 600 wish I never got rid of it. Now back to the question at hand. the 600 will most certinly smoke the DrZ400. the 650L is slow off the line with the 400 and by the top of 2nd gear I am passing my buddies DRZ every time. It may be slower off the line, but, it dos mot take long to over power the smaller engine.
