650l with hot cam problem maybe?

Recommended Posts

after doing all the mods to breath i opted to add a hot cam and have it dynotuned...with the compression release gone i notice it is harder to start when hot,and after riding fairly hard it seems like it overheats..it barely turns over and even stalled out easily when letting the clutch out..after 1o minutes it was fine. it also pops like mad when at altitude and i cant adjust it out with the air jet. i also noticed after riding hard and taking a turn it hesiitated and almost died a few times. i bought it to the shop and they said it checked out fine. it does seem fine when just riding easy, but go head in the dirt and get sideways and i can barely start it,but i can let it rest a minute and it will start easily again.

any ideas? i am guessing the idle jet is too rich, but it still seems like maybe an air leak also...hmmm...:applause:

wouldnt this be the first sign of a failing stator? It heats up and loses output creating a weak spark?

I dont know the values but you could check the output with a multimeter when cold vs hot.

after the bike was checked out on the dyno again today i brought it home and let it warm up for a couple of minutes, then i rode it a block and came to a stop sign,it promptly popped and died...it ran better after being totally hot,but i suspect nothing has changed...sigh..what now geez!

i have to say i got a hotcam in my 600 (same engine) from what your saying you might just have a timing issure might want to check that out too cause my bike runs like a rhino with a rocket up its ass and starts 2 kicks cold 1 kick hot

i will have to find out,a local shop that has a dyno tuned it..they checked it today again..they said the air jet was loosening up..it still runs the same.

If they actually said "air jet" I think you may need to find someone more familiar with this carb or with thumpers in general.

Is he running the stock CV? If he has an FCR then the air jet problem could be real.

Sounds like jetting to me as well.

If it were timing, there would be little difference hot to cold.

The stator idea is a good one, easy to check. What year is the bike?
