will another clutch basket fit a 2000 yz426 or is it specific to a 426, ie, yz250f or yz250, year specific? I know a lot of yz parts are compatible but not sure about this one, any help?

Nope. The 2000 was unique. The '01-'02 basket and gear assembly will fit, and if you buy from TT OEM Parts, it will cost you less than the aftermarket parts. The cushion unit and gear assembly was changed, and Hinson doesn't list one for the '00.

FYI, Precision Engineering makes a 00 specific billet clutch basket. $140 from MotosportOutlet.
