if your looking for a longer brake line just go to your local dealer and look in the Parts Unlimited streetbike book, they sell universal brakelines in any length and you just buy whatever size banjo fittings you'll need and they screw on. its super simple and usually cheaper then buying a pre made line. oh and the lines are stainless

Are you painting the frame stock color?  I was considering painting or powder coating mine black later this summer.

Just painted the areas I welded on for the kick stand bracket. I painted them with some paint I got at a hardware store and it didn't look too good. I wire brushed it all off and repainted it. PJ1 sells some stock match color.

I got the Brake line. It works well. Mounts right up. It does have a hole worn in, so I am trying to get a refund and I will order a new one on Tuesday. Anybody know if a 125 clutch and throttle cable will fit?

I am really loving this thread, since I am doing about the same thing for my girlfriend.  We are going with:

Steahly 10 oz flywheel weight
Steahly kickstand
brushguards - any recommendations?
skid / glide plate - any recommendations?
spark arrestor - any recommendations?  It needs to be at least as quiet as stock.

no lights for now
stock tank for now

Does anyone know where I can purchase a complete tall seat for it?
I have seen threads about making a throttle stop for it.  Would anyone care to elaborate on how to get that accomplished?  I am not sure she needs it, but if it is a quick mod, I might do it for a few rides just to be sure.

^ Gutz Racing was the only place I found that made aftermarket tall seats for the KX.  I was disappointed to learn BBR didn't make them for the KX as that was what I wanted.  gutsracing.com is their link.  I got a Pro Circuit spark arrestor and I wouldn't recommend it; very loud.  I should have gotten the FMF TurbineCore II Q that everyone was recommending.  Might want to get some radiator guards too, I've got Works Connection and crash tested them a couple of times.  :banghead:

A little update on the KDX100:

My wife is ridding the wheels off of it and she really likes it. I think the best mod I did to it was finally gearing it down enough. The rear sproket is 6 teeth bigger and the front is one tooth smaller. That gave her some serious confidence and now she is able to motor through the technical stuff like a pro.

We rode Moab 2 weeks ago. Heather and the KDX100 did awesome. She even made it up one tight section that one of the guys didnt!! She rubbed it in huge! The bad news is that we took off down the highway and in 6th gear full throttle she siezed it up! She managed to stay on it with out getting some serious road rash, but now I have to rebuild it. I was thinking of pumping the motor a little, maybe a port and polish or soemthing. Anybody know someone who builds the 100 motors for trails? My good friend who always builds my yamahas can do it no problem, but I am not she he (or I) want to waste his time!

Here is a pic of Moab. Heather is ridding an xr200. She was missed her biek huge, but she was happy she could borrow the 200 from a friend and get to ride!!

Hey Kirby, I've been contemplating putting a KDX200 motor in my KX100, maybe you could be the trailblazer and give it a try!  Glad she likes her bike, you did a great job on it and I pimp her bike in the Thumpette section occassionally, hope you don't mind.

Thanks for the compliments!

No problem. Pimp away! We are very pleased with it. Now that she has the right machine, she can really ride. I wish Kawasaki just made the right machine out of the box for her!

A KDX200 motor, huh? Sounds like a fun project. For now I think a 100 is pretty much perfect for her! Maybe we will look at that when she needs more motor! Go ahead and do it and get all the kinks worked out before I consider it please!

I had Munn racing (www.CMMachine.com) bore my wife's 2mm over, replate and do his "super enduro" port and polish for right around $600 including a wiseco piston.  Power was supposed to be like a 250F in character, but it is pretty dang peaky.  When it hits the powerband (I installed a green one :p )with me riding, it wants to loft the front wheel if I don't keep my weight forward.

It is 107ceecees of ornery!

I talked to my engine building buddy and he said he can mill the head no problem to make it more toquey/ trail friendly by upping the compression, so I guess I will go that route. Does anyone know if they had a nickel plated cylinder in 2000?

It will be Kawasaki's "electroplate"

I tore into the bike the other day. Bad news: The Lower rod bearing is toast!!

I decided it would be easier to get another low mile bike and part this one, so I picked up a 2002 KX 100 today. Bone stock. Still has the original tires on it and it is in really good shape. All the parts will be swapped over and my wife will be back in buisiness. I thought of parting the bike out but it sounds like I may have found someone who wants the whole thing so I am thinking of going that route.

I have a used crank from my wife's 2002 that you can have for shipping.  I don't think there is much wrong with it, I just replaced ti when I did a rebuild since we weren't the original owners.

Update!

Sold the old 2000 and got a 2002. I sold it to an airplane mechanic for cheap and he was going to fix it for his kids.

The new bike is a 2002 with original tires. Great bike, low miles. I saved all the parts, but haven't gotten everything on it yet. I put pro tapers on this one instead. I also used a kx125 throttle cable and clutch cable. Still needs the lighting coil and liscensce plate/ holder. I don't quite have the jetting figured out. It is pissing me off a little. It bogs on the bottom and loads up no matter how lean I make the pilot. I think it may be the floats, but I am going to need some help adjusting those.

Here is some pics from the anniversary trail ride we did in July:

Look close at this one...

Notice the quick steel repair on the side case? She managed to knock a quarter sized hole in the side case from a rock! I had to completely take the clutch apart to get the pieces out. It was a great trip!!

I have had some recent questions about the KDX100 lately, so I thought I would do an update.

I got the jetting figured out on it. Between 2000 and 2002, the carbs changed to a flat slide. I was running way to lean. Now I am running a 42 pilot and a 128 main. That has cleared up most of my issues. I tried to jet it like I had the 2000, and it ended up way to lean.

Handle Bars/ Cables. I mentioned I used 2002 kx125 throttle and clutch cables due to the fact that the stock ones were way to short for the higher bend bars we wanted to run. This did not come with out modification.

The clutch: On the clutch cable, the lower "cylinder" that acts as a an anchor on the end of the cable was larger on the 125. I considered seeing if a 125 arm would fit into the 100 case, but I eventually just took the easy route and bored out the hole in the arm with a standard drill bit. Seen Here:

I also ended up grinding down the lever base because I didn't quite have enough slack in the cable to properly adjust the clutch. Seen Here:
Posted Image

The throttle cable mounted up to the carb perfectly, but there was too much cable for the throttle tube. I considered using a 125 throttle tube, but I decided this may not be due to the actual throttle tube, but due to the shorter travel slide on the carb. Anyway, I needed to shorten the cable and add an anchor to it. I cut it with some side cutters and used a clamp on style cable anchor from Ace hardware. Simular to one for a bicycle. I tried using a soldiering iron and melting the factory installed one, but that didn't work at all!
For the brake lever, I used one off a kx250 on the last one and it worked pretty good, but it was almost too long. However, I did have one off my 2000yz426 when I was building the KDX, so I just tried it. It works great Perfect length.

Handlebars: We had ordered some Renthal Mini High bends for it and those worked OK, but I tried to shorten them so my wife could turn easier and stand up straighter (shorter arms on her!) and I ended up shortening them too much. To the point that the brake and clutch perches did not fit correctly. This ticked me off, and they were never really high enough. We went to protapers that I had off my YZ. They were low YZ bends, but we used the cheap protaper adapters that raise the bar 1". Those were close, but still not tall enough. I also modded the Acerbis mini handguard mounts to work with protapers by grinding a little with the die grinder. Eventually the all plastic acerbis wore down and the platic broke from some serious crashes!

The current bars are black protaper "Woods High" bend bars. They are narrower than a conventional bar and they are tall too. She likes them. At the same time I added new Cycra Probend handguards with the new central mounting system. I also swapped out the platic guards that came with the guards for the more low profile set. They are much tougher and with the smaller guards they look more proportional. I also added a trail tech on/off switch for the headlight and  relocated the lisensce plate to the back of the air box. I still need to order a steahly kick stand for this one (I sold the 95 kick stand/ mount I built with the 2000) and I am thinking of adding some low boy pro moto billet foot pegs. I was considering doing a piston this winter, but I didn't get it done. Maybe next winter?

I just sent my daughters 02' cyl off to Steahly to mill the bottom to alter port timing to bring the power band down a little. Anxious to ride it after this mod. I also got a 2 tooth larger rear cuz with my large body on it it wouldnt pull 6th smartly unless revved way up tight. With her 100lbs on it it probly did tho.

I also have a new bracket, spring and bolt for the 95-97 kickstand if anyone needs them, no leg tho.
