I did some digging. I guess PJ1 makes a color matched paint for 199-2006 kawasakis or something. I am going to see if I can get my hands on some.

If you want to mellow it out more, there's a boss under the throttle that can be tapped for an adjustable throttle stop. All you need is a screw and lock nut then. My 12 year old daughter learned to ride this way on her kx100.

Looks clean!!  I like the graphics.
My wife decided she wants to ride too. This is cool because I was going to have to sell one of my toys.  I also have an 03 CRF150/ BBR 175 which I will teach her on I think she may like the 100 better due to the weight difference.  Either way the more the merrier. Se has always been cool about buying bikes and gear just that much cooler that she wants to join in on the fun.

The KLX headlight looked way too big until we added the IMS tank, then the proportions evened out. Since the last update I have added an Acerbis LED taillight/ brake light, a K&S brakelight switch, Grips, Acerbis Minicross Rally Handguards and Renthal Bars. I wanted to do a KLX400 LED tailight, but they were too big and expensive. The acerbis one is very sweet, priced right and fits awesome. Those mods are all pictured. I have 2 things left to do on this project:

1- buy a light switch and wire it. Probably a KLX switch.

2- Get a longer front brake cable. With the tall bend bars and needing to be routed outside the upper rubber headlight mount I will need to get about 6-8 inch longer line. Anybody heard of a company who does that? I think there is a bearing shop in town who makes custom lines. I will check with them.
PICS!

Very nice job! I've watched this thread since your first post and had some doubts. I've preached that the ttr125 was the perfect wifie bike till now. When junior is done with his 100 I think I'll follow suit on all the mods you did and convert it for mom. KUDOS

Kirby N,

That thing is sweet looking! What is your wife's review on the bike? I remember you saying that she had a little trouble with the loose stuff up a hill. Did that FWW make a difference? I bought a 2003 KX 125 for my wife (she's 5'10") and put the heaviest FWW that Steahly makes, which was only 9 oz's. She hasn't stalled the bike yet, but I wish they made a 12 oz one for it. How much weight did all the MOD's add to the bike? Last question, I promise. In your 1st post, you said something about adding a license plate. What for? Can it be plated for the street?

Thanks,

David

Pretty sweet. Looks like it turned out really nice.

I had big dreams of building a cool girly bike when my gf said she wanted to ride. I put her on a borrowed CRF100 to see how she'd like it. About 12 seconds and 20 feet later we went to the hospital, then she spent a few days laid up. She now has zero interest in bikes, and worries more than ever about me riding. Backfire.....

Damn...what the heck happened? Did she break anything? I hope she has completely recovered. What happened to your GF is exactly what I was worried about with my wife. I sent her to an all-day Motorcycle Safety Course, which made all the difference in the world.

I had her start and stop a few times, she was real smooth with the clutch. The third time she kind of popped it, grabbed a handful of throttle, and completly froze. I still had a hand on the rear part of the frame, running and yelling for her to let off. Eventually she started tipping and just bailed. The bike fell to the left, she kind of dove to the right. All of use there laughed a little, because she was probably doing a good 5 mph when she went down.

She rolled over and I didn't laugh so much. In her little dive she took a foot peg to the lower abdomen/upper corner of her pelvis. Didn't look too bad at first, just a little bloody. Then it swelled up like crazy and concern set in.  No real damage, just some really deep bruising. Its been 4-5 weeks now and it still feels like there is a golf ball under the skin there, aparently its some muscle damage, but will be ok.

It was all just a freak thing. She said she'll someday try again, but I think she just wants to do that for me, not because she really wants too.

She's willing to try a fully automatic quad though.

If she tells her version of story it probably goes more like this -

Quote

  • I crashed because my boyfriend was an arse and didn't tell me I had couldn't slow down while holding the throttle wide open.
  • I was horrifically injured, bleeding, swelling, near death.
  • My boyfriend was an arse and kept laughing at me.
  • After slipping into a coma my boyfiend (who is an arse, and is totally at fault) took his sweet time changing, loading the bikes, and chit chatting with other people.
  • On the way to the hospital my arse-hole boyfriend hit every bump, ripple, pothole, and washout he possibly could, at speed.
  • When we got the hospital my boyfriend wandered off, probably to check out nurses, saying something like "she's damaged goods now"...
  • After getting morphined up to get cat scans and x-rays, my boyfriend (the arse responsible for my suffering) left to drop off the trailer and get some food, and probably to check out other women.
  • When the arse finally returned 2 hours later he forgot to bring me new pants, which was a big deal because the doctors had to cut off my old pants when I got here.

You get the idea. Sad part is that last line is true. She got some cool hospital pants to go home in though. You could probably fit 3 of her in em.

Check out spiegler.com for custom brake lines.

Does anybody on this thread have any experience jetting the KX100. We're trying to lean out my son's '04 to prevent fouling plugs. So far: 45-->40 PJ, AS 2.0, MJ 138-->135. Tried clip #3 on needle, but was too lean, so I'm ordering the NAQF (1/2 clip leaner than stock NAPF). You may find that in slow or technical trail riding the bike tends to foul plugs.

Wholy crap, I just saw the pics of that beautiiful field on the last page. Look at all that freaking traction out there! Dang... all we get is 1-6 inches of gravel and loose dry dirt with a layer of silt.

The wife loves it. She really likes the power and really likes the weight. She has a pretty good perspective on it after ridding a pig of a TTR225 for a season. They make a 12oz FWW for it, I rode one with a 12 on it and it was a slug. It wouldn't pull the front wheel no matter how hard you dumped the clutch. It annoyed me so we put a 10oz on it. Now, I really think that whole bike was a slug probably in desperate need of a piston. Hers still rips with the 10oz on it. Much more tracable. I think a 12 oz would have been a good choice. She loves the FWW- big difference. We haven't been ridding in the same area yet, so I don't know how much different the hill would be, but she says it is a much easier ride.

How much weight? I have no idea! Gas weighs 6lbs a gallon so atleast 6lbs I guess...

It is street legal now, I just need to register it and get it insured. I might do that today. It even has a brake light. I will have to add a horn and a mirror, but I will take those off after it is registered.

Got insurance and a plate today. Now I can rip up the street and the neighbors can't call the cops on me! I just got to get the brake line figured out now.

That's pretty cool that you got it plated.  It would be a good bike to mess around town with I suppose.  I like the way the KLX light looks on there, I may have to look for one for my sons KX100.  How does the light work?  Ours is pretty dim at idle, but anything over that and it lights up fine.

Nice bike, enjoy!

Thanks for the compliments.

The light is like any other light I have had (it may be somewhat exagerated though)- even the stock one on my WR400- it is dim at idle then lights up well with some throttle. I had a WR250 2 stroke with an aftermarket headlight on it and I learned to turn the idle up when I was night ridding so I could see when I let off the gas. I have noticed bikes with batteries don't do that. Must be nice!

I got a 2002 KX250 line off ebay for $4.99. I am going to try that. I hope it works well, if it does I will use another guide on the top tripple clamp mount and mount the headlight solid there too- that is how it is on the stock KLX400.

I rode it to work on Thursday. It was fun. You wouldn't belive the looks I got!

My wife is in Peru for a week, so I am changing brake pads, brake fluid and I painting the frame. I painted a few coats last night. It turned out really good. May need more coats though.

Are you painting the frame stock color?  I was considering painting or powder coating mine black later this summer.
