Problems with Acerbis tank

(05 wr450) I have a problem where my right side petcock tends to lean against the head bolt. That slowly burns a hole in the fuel line. That pet cock seems to angle inward at a 45 degree angle. Does anyone have a trick or two, maybe know of something that I can use as a shield to protect the rubber.

When I first put the tank on, I had a problem where I didn't have enough room to pull out the choke. So I changed the brackets and spacers on the tank to give me enough clearance for the choke on the left. Now the right side is too close.

I have been round and round with this tank and its really annoying that it doesn't fit perfectly.

Is there a different petcock I can use? Is there a heat shield of some sort that I can use. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Mine has a spring that goes around the line to keep it from touching anything. It was on there when I got it so idk if someone put it on or if it came with it but I have not had a problem with the hose burning with the spring on it. ?

I have an 05, but never had a problem with choke or fuel line. I bought a brass T and other fuel line. If you want PM me I'll post pictures of what I did.

Ditto. I messed with one of the mounts to get a better fit with the end result being my right fuel line has plenty of room and the choke has just enough clearance to fully open...SC

I also had to reverse one of the mounts and the spacers to get my tank to sit just a little more to the left. good for the left side because it allowed my choke to fully open.

but now it moved the right side so the hose on the right petcock is resting very slightly against that head bolt. If only that petcock didn't angle inwards.

I don't think that bolt gets that hot, but its slowly softened up the rubber to where it finally sprung a leak. Good thing I was at home working on the bike instead in the middle of the desert at the time.

I guess the tolerances are not exact. It off by just a hair. I need some sort of insulation. Maybe I'll look for some fiberglass or carbon fiber to put there.

You can also go to a BIG auto supply or Hot Rod store. There you will find LOTS of products that are designed to insulate important things like fuel lines from heat damage. I bought some accordion heat reflective tubing the right diameter to slip over my fuel lines. Looks good, works good. They will also carry the heat reflective tape to put on the inside of your tank to reflect some of the heat coming off your header that is just below. Good luck.
