Going to buy a XR650R-Price Check: 2001, 2003

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to pick one up. One guy has both a 2001 and 2003 XR650R. Both are pratically new.

What do you guys think they are worth? I know Kelly Blue Book lists the retail on these bikes at $3155, and $3650. Is KBB reliable and accurate?

Thanks guys!!!

They may cost more if they have a street license plate and the associated dual sport kit for blinkers, brake light, mirror, speedo, horn, handlebar switch, etc. In California, the street legal bikes go for about $1k more than blue book.

The numbers you listed sound fair for a well maintained, good condition bike!

Good luck, let us know what you do?

Here are his asking prices on the bikes:

2003- $4200

2001- $3600

Like I said in my orriginal post, they are in great condition. The side cases have the orriginal paint on them. No rubbing.

They aren't streeted. I plan on it, but these bikes were used off road, and little at that.

Thanks.

I think I'm going to offer him $2800 for the '01. What do you guys think?

Price is all about supply and demand, with a little mix of seller needing money, and buyer buyer needing bike fast. If he has 2 to sell, is he wanting to keep 1, or sell both. Is this the only xr650r seller in the area? If there is more bikes on the market, then you can offer a lower price. If he really wants to sell, you might get a great deal. Both bikes will be a good choice!

I paid 3600 for a plated 01 in great condition last summer, lots of add on parts, too (Edelbrock, rack, etc)

his prices seem pretty high. i would say offer him at least 600 less then his asking prices... i paid 3000 for a plated 03 last year. i would have paid 3500 for the same bike but i definately wasn't going to tell the seller that

Just bought a 2001 650R for $2400; it was very well maintained but has been desert raced in an expert class for 3 years, so it wasnt sitting in the garage. KBB prices sound reasonable, his asking prices sound high.

A tribute to the trusty XR (and lots of oil changes); I pretty much expected to have to do top-end as much time it had on it; I had a compression check done and it came back 150psi - only 10 psi off a fresh rebuild.
