Almost Completed The Perfect Xr650l

Recommended Posts

I agree- lots of work, time and money, unless you do not like water cooled bikes, with better suspension, etc., etc. :bonk::D

Some people enjoy working on bikes.:naughty::bonk:

When I bought my L, I wasn't sure about registering an offroad bike. I didn't want to spend 6K just find out I couldn't ride it on the road.

As for better suspension, you didn't look at my bike, did you.

I agree... But not one of us makes sence. XRL guy's want a 14 tooth front gear while R guy's want 15 tooth. XRL want the best dirt tire while R guy's turn their bike in to SM with slicks. We all need new side panels and will make ever effort to make a 600R left panel fit. We try to put CRF fenders on our bike. XRL guy's what to remove their turn signals and mirrors while the R guy'ds try to add them. R guy's want a magic button and this gentleman wants to Kick his XRL (personally I'm to short, old, and fat to kick). Some of us add big tanks while other add to Monster Tanks. When 600cc not enough and 650cc is to much there is the perfect 628cc. The list go on and on and that is what keep me coming back.

I'm still looking for the XRL with a sidecar. I know there is one out there.

When the dust settles we are all after something unique. Because the XR has been around for years with little change.

Have fun.

AJ:thumbsup:

Glenn, so you didn't like what people said, and so pulled your post to keep the info from the group?

What a total jerkface move, man.

You ain't gonna get along with everyone, if a few want to take a poke at you for doing X, or Y, or Z, just deal with it.

Its gonna happen.

You go Dave! Like "ajones" just said, to each his own- I would applaud the work done right, but I still do not get it. Then again, I am one of those "R" guys adding blinkers and mirrors! :bonk::naughty:

Heres The Deal With Pulling My Post,i See Post All The Time With People Asking Questions About Mods And Almost Everytime The Info Is Wrong And Its From Some Blowhole That Doesn't Even Know How To Change His Oil. So I Decided I Would Post The Real Truth And Help Others With Thier Mods And I Really Thought This Would Go Over Good And Get Some Xr/xl Guys Thumping. I Only Post Tested And Proven Mods And I Will Never Say Something I Haven't Tried, And It Really Gets Me Pissed When I See A Post From Someone Who Knows Nothing And Then Post Neg Info About My Mods That I Have Used And I Know Work. I Have Never Seen A Post Yet With Clear And Exact Info About Adding A Kick Start To An L And My Post Told The Complete Mods To Complete The Install. I Think It Was You That Said The Axle Shaft Was To Short On The L And You Would Have To Change The Shaft And That Was Not True And I Can't Figure Why You Or Anyone For That Matter Would Give Info That You Haven't Already Used And Tested. The Bottom Line Is I Will Not Share My Info With People That Don't Appreciate What I'm Giving Or With Jerks That Just Don't Have The Brain Cells To Listen And Learn. Before I Go I Want Give The Guys Who Really Want And Need Some Correct Info And These Are All Tested And Proven By Me With Over 1000 Miles Of Proof=

Old Xr/xl Flywheels Do Bolt On And Work With The New 650l Engine(if Your Removing E-start),xr600 Left Side Covers Work With Only One Slight Bracket Mod,xr650ls Will Run Without A Battery But You Have To Use A Batt-eliminator To Use The Lights And The Lights Are Just As Bright As Original,xr'xl Left And Right Engine Covers Do Bolt Up To The 650l,big Gun Exhaust And Uncorking Adds 5hp,wiseco 10.25 And A Hotcams Adds 5hp, 10 Total, Installing The Clutch Cover From A Xr/xl And Kick Components Will Bolt Up And Give You A Kick Start L But You Will Have To Remove And Cut Down The End Of The Axle/idler Shaft To Fit The Idler Gear To Complete The Install.i Hope This Info Helps The Good Guys And I Hope The Smart-asses Skin Their Knuckles. I am running the horn and all the lights without a battery and it will start on the first kick everytime when its cold but it takes about 3 kicks when hot. let me know what mods you might be doing and i'll be glad to help you along or if you need an engine pulled apart to do a kick start install i can do that for a good price. glenn

forgot to mention i removed the battery and installed a battery eliminator and all the elecs work, also when you do this you can remove that briefcase they call a battery box and install a xr600r side cover and it really cleans the bike up. the xr side cover matches up almost perfect but you have to remove one bracket extention and pop rivet the bolt lock back to the airbox. glenn

Gee, why would I volunteer information I have from someone who did the mod? True enough, you found you can turn the stock shaft, which that person didn't notice, but maybe I was trying to help?

So I should just shut my yap if I haven't personally done the mod?

You got a little too much attitude there, and a whiny "I'm taking my toys" outlook, for me.

Tell me, am I a smart-ass blowhole with skinned knuckles that can't even change my own oil?

Do you think you have a lock on 'the truth'?

And do you think 1000 miles proves a thing? This bike will prob. go 1000 miles without oil!

What's the proper clearance and finish for the shoulder the gear rides on? Is there supposed to be a channel for oil to lube it? Is yours going to seize at 2000 miles?

Do, please, let us know!

Dave

My critque of this guy Glenn is his attitude.

He also has taken a bike designed for comfort and dual sporting and quite frankli wrecked it.

Who wants kick start on a dual sport?

Certainly not the western world

Goodluck with your projects Glenn.

Drop your insecure ffing attitude as well and you might be a bit more welcome round here.

Well Now Look At Your Attitude, Looks Like You Might Just Be A Little Bitch That Likes To Read Other Posts From Other Morans And Then Tell Everyone Its The Way To Go!!! You See Thats What I Was Talking About When I Said This Site Was Just A Joke, Because 99 Percent Of You Are Blowholes And When Someone Gives You Real True Info You Freaks Try To Tear It Apart Because You Don't Have The Brains Or Skills To Do The Mods So I Guess All You Can Do Is Make Up Bullshit And Try To Out Talk Each Other. Oh, And I Sure Hope Your Not The Guy Known For (daves Carb Mods) Because Any Half Ass Tech Knows Thats Just A Common Dyno-jet Instruction Sheet And I Guess You Had To Copy That Too!! Keep Copy'in You Loser!!

And Yes I Am Cocky And One Hell Of A Wrench And You Just Come Get Ya Some!!! *****

I will have to admit that Glenns attitude needs some work, but he has proven an issue that we have discussed before with no resolution. You can kick start and L. Everyone was under the impression that it would not kick without electrical mods. For me this was pretty huge. I want to add a kick and keep my E start. So thank you glenn for that! Now we need to figure out how to transplant the 600 Cdi into the L with no ill effects!
