There are way too many people making new post about the cam recall. Below is the official word. This applies to both the big and small wheel version for the Vin number range listed.

Cams might break. CRF150r vin range JH2KE033*7K000001 to JH2ke033*7K005279. CRF150RB vin range.JH2ke033*7k000001 to JH2KE033* to JH2ke033*005791. The parts are not availiable yet. Do not sell any of these machines.

Honda has not put a stop to production, just a stop on the sale of bikes that are affected. Everyone should receive an official letter in the mail soon from either Honda or their dealer with the recall information. If you are uncertain about if this recall affects your bike, call your dealer and ask.

Here is the official notice from Honda.

American Honda is conducting a Product Update Campaign to replace the camshaft on certain 2007 CRF150R/RB motorcycles. On affected units, a defect may exist in the camshaft that may cause it to break during extreme operating conditions. Honda will replace the cam and necessary related parts free of charge.

Owners of 2007 CRF150R/RB motorcycles should contact an authorized Honda motorcycle dealer and make an appointment for the repair. Dealers will replace the cam and necessary related parts for original or subsequent owners at no cost. The Campaign ends March 23, 2010. For more information visit the Honda website at www.powersports.honda.com and click on Locate a Dealer to find a nearby dealer or call Honda Customer Relations at (866) 784-1870.

2007 Honda CRF250R Product Update Campaign

American Honda is conducting a Product Update Campaign to replace the clutch outer on certain 2007 CRF250R motorcycles. On affected units, the rubber clutch dampers may deteriorate after extended use and time. American Honda has not received any customer reports of failure, however Honda has determined from its own ongoing durability testing that there is a possibility current or subsequent owners could eventually experience the problem. Honda will therefore replace the original clutch outer and necessary related parts for current or subsequent owners at no cost.

2007 CRF250R owners should contact an authorized Honda motorcycle dealer and make an appointment for the repair. The Campaign will end March 23, 2010. For more information visit the Honda website at www.powersports.honda.com and click on Locate a Dealer or call Honda Customer Relations at (866) 784-1870.

Not really... They don't have the 033 in the middle.

So would buying an aftermarket cam help the problem - or does anybody even make any?

- If not I guess it is just as simple as going down to your local Honda dealer, and they will put on a new one?

Once Honda sends them the new parts, then yes

Called my dealer and was told not to install any aftermarket motor parts until after the repair.

Djtroy I believe ur right even tho the 33 and 3c are different. In the original post it has a * meaning any numbers can be there.....and then its posted 0001- 5279.  JH2KE033*7K000001  i believe the * means any number to the left can be anything and then the 7k00001 - the 7k005279 is what matters.
:naughty:  so I guess that makes the most sense so if anyone is between 00001 and 005279, you should call your dealer and have ur bike brought and have the cams switched.:bonk:

Can somebody please clarify the VIN numbers?

From what I can tell,
JH2KE03C*
would NOT be in the recall range, since "3C" and "33" are different.

JH2ke033*7k000001

Some people are saying yes, some are saying no...does anybody have a definitive answer?

Thanks.

ps, my VIN starts with JH2KE03C so I'd really like to know!

Look at the last four digits on your frame. If it's between 0001 and 5279 you will be part of the recall.

I agree with CamP, that is what my deal said as well.  Between 0001 and 5279, the rest doesn't matter.  When I called the dealer they only cared about the last couple of numbers.

I called and they told me to go to the honda.com web site. They said there is a page where you can enter the vin and find out if your vehicle is affected or not. I don't know...I can't find that stinking page....

If you go to Honda.com and register for ownerlink and add your vin then there is a link for Recall info. I did mine and this is what it said "There are no current safety recalls for your 2007 Honda Crf150r." The last 4 of my vin is 0606, so it must not work or Honda has not actually released the recall.  I'm told HOTCAMS should have some available in a couple weeks :bonk: :naughty:

People are using the term "recall", but the only official information from Honda is the stop sell.
