Why put maxima 927 oil in a 4stroke gas tank?

I buy a gallon or two of VP-U4 a couple times a year and put it in my gas jug. Then I get the smell of 'race gas' without really running race gas. Is this the same smell every is talking about?

I add 1ml per L of maxima or valve saver in all my 4 strokes. Helps lube valves and reduce valve recession, many of the LPG engine lubes Flashlube Lucas Morleys are good also modern fuel is so dry now that it is lead free. I run maxima @ 40:1 in my 2 strokes....
