Single best mod for sure!!

Just finished the Decomp mod for my '00 426 and like said I don't know why I waited so long.

This shoulda been the way I spent my money in the first place:

1) Bike

2) Helmet and Boots

3) Decomp Cam

It was a breeze and turned out dandy. I can't wait to hit the trails!!!

How much time and money is actually involved in doing this?

Yah, I got the cam for about $140 at my local dealer and it took me about 2 hours...but i really took my time. I had done most of the motions before while checking my valves so i wasn't so nervous. I truly was surprised how easy it was to kick.

I'd lke to thank everyone who ever posted a comment on the decomp mod because you're the ones who really pushed me into it.

IT'S WELL WORTH THE TIME AND MONEY!!!

Boy do I agree with that. Did mine this winter. Raced the first race of the season yesterday. Got caught up in a first corner pile up, got my front end knocked out from under me, went down, got run over by the guy behind me. Got up body seemed to function normall, picked up the bike kicked it twice and got back in the race. No starting drill :applause: no problems.

Did mine over the winter, all I can say is wooohoo! Cam $102, chain $29, no starting drill - priceless...

BTW, parts came from TT OEM store

$102 shippped? Damn, I thought about going through the TT store but I figured by the time I paid the $10 or whatever to get into the store and then bought the part and shipping it'd be the same. My dealer was slow too... shoulda woulda coulda...:applause:

If thats any hint at how the TT store compares then i'm def shopping there next time. I paid $140 and they gave me 15% off

No shipping wasn't free. I bought a bunch of small stuff. The shipping was $16, as cheap as I am I was a little disgusted that they charged me that much.

Well... you mean they don't offer free shipping on orders above a certain amount like other places?

OEM, just the 03 450 cam. I read somewhere on here that the hotcams exhaust cam is better suited to be used with the hotcams intake cam..plus it was like $20 cheaper....ofcourse those bastards told me 15% off the price too...they probably charge 5% over MSRP anyway

So, you just installed the 03 450 exhaust cam and left your stock 426 cam? That may be what I do then... didn't realize you could do that.

uh....huh? I took out the 426 cam and replaced it with the 450 cam...after i played with it...it's pretty neat. I decided for the mean time to leave my decompression lever installed and mounted so that if I ever flood it out it's there to open up and kick a few times to clear it out a little.....Thats cool right Gray? It won't mess anything up from what I heard and saw.

He meant that you left your stock intake cam, and yes, that has always been the way it's been done, unless replacing both with Hot Cams, or whatever.

You can leave the manual decomp in place, but you don't need it. If you ever actually have to adjust the right exhaust valve, it gets in the way. Flooded engines can be cleared by kicking them through a couple of times with the throttle opened wide. No gas is added this way after the throttle is opened because there isn't enough vacuum with throttle opened to pull any from the carb.
