I got a SDG... but

Recommended Posts

When i put the seat on its very hard to get on, and once the seat is on and in place it seems to be very, very tight at the bottom of the take(at the bend) then at the top it has free play( or sticks out from the tank alittle). I have read on here to get a gutz seat but for the price of this seat i couldnt pass it up. Any help would be great. By the way it is a 04 yz 450, and a brand new seat.

What kind of work did you do to get yours to fit correctly, may you please tell me the tricks. If its a hammer then so be it, i will go out in the garage and smash the $hit out of it.:applause:

so true........

I had SDG send me 2 sets of brackets for the rear of the seat because the stock brackets made the damn seat sit up 3/4 inch over the top of the rear fender....Both of these new brackets did not fix the issue. So I took my 5lb deadweight hammer and "smashed the crap" out of the top of each bracket untill the rear of the SDG seat fit like my stock seat. This is on my Blue/black seat.

The Black seat fits decent in the back but the front is somewhat bunched up.....

Friggin stupid SDG.....I will never buy another one of their seats period....their seat foam gets hards as a rock too after several months

Seems to me that the seat shouldn't fit so tight at the bottom of the tank. To me it appears that with time it will rip the seat cover. Im not sure what im gonna do yet, i may end up selling it and getting another stock seat for my bike or putting new foam on my stock seat. I liked the stock seat but it wore out and the foam even fell out of the middle of it.

for the best fit and best foam use the stock seat base and Gutz racing foam

Just a thought, but check the center of the seat and make sure it is "hooking" under the frame, and not just sitting on top of it. I noticed right away on my '01 426 that my new tall SDG seat didn't fit right, but I also noticed a sizeable gap just above the airbox where the bottom side "hook" didn't go under the frame rail. You may need to give the seat a little thump on the center as you slide it forward, but it should snug up.

It's worth a look, and you won't have to smash the :applause: out of you seat anymore. :applause:

Well the hook is going were it is supposed to be going and thats half the battle with the seat, you pretty much have to give the seat a good elbow jab and then push at the same time to get it on correctly. Once its on its fine except its really tight at the bottom and lose at the top. Thanks for the replys though.:applause:

Wow. I'm suprised you guys have this much trouble with SDG. I've owned several over the years and the only issue that I've noticed is that they stick up a little higher in the back than the stock seats. They've worn well also.
