the rekluse

Recommended Posts

so ive never heard of the rekluse clutch. so i asked my friends at the track and they had no idea either. so after hearing all this hoopla about the rekluse (only on here) i decided to check out their website. so am i right to say it eliminates the clutch lever? like you dont use your clutch hand anymore? if so i have to say that sounds like the stupidest thing ive ever heard of. isnt clutching one of the funnest parts of riding? it makes me think of taking your bad 450 and turning it into a fast polaris trail blazer that you just gas and go. so does anyone have one and what do you think about it?

You don't have to eliminate your clutch lever. I still have mine. The rekluse turned my bike into a holeshot machine on a MX track and it feels like I'm cheating on single track.

Back to the MX thing. I timed myself on a 1.75 mile MX track with the standard clutch vs. the Rekluse, I was an honest 3 seconds a lap faster with the autoclutch. Thats a huge difference....

I like it better than I like you :applause:

Honestly, it is the best mod a woods rider can make to the YZF. Just do a search on here and find all of the info about the clutch if you are really interested. I am not impressed with the autoclutch in sand, so it doesn't look like you would like it judging from your pics. If I rode mostly sand I would stay stock, but I ride mostly woods and my arms can't take all of the clutching in the tight twisties with a close ratio and light flywheel:cry: This mod makes the YZF into a potent woods bike that is comfortable to ride all day long, NO MORE ARM PUMP :applause:

fair enough.

i wasnt slamming it, the theory of the whole thing just didnt seem appealing to me. i could see where in gnarly woods it would come in handy. either way its a pretty interesting setup.

Jess -

PM me sometime and we'll go for a ride and you can try mine out. It's on an '01 426, and I bet you will change your tune! Agreed, it ISN'T the best in all situations, but I race the MRAN Desert Series, and after last weekend's 104 miles from Moapa to Apex race, it saved my bacon many times over!

FYI - One of my buddies, who rides a pumped up YZ 285 2 smoke, tried it out on my other friends '06 YZ450, and he was totally impressed! He thought for sure he would hate it, especially in the corners and seat bouncing out at Sandy Valley, but I think he is coming around! Like I said, lets ride, and you can try for yourself. I think you will be impressed.

I rode serious woods stuff Harescramble GNCC stuff and convinced myself I had to have the rekluse. Not a great rider solid "B". Got the one with the optional clutch that you can disengage at any time or "feather" coming out of tight stuff or getting you through a turn. If you like your engine brake to set you up in turns or use it ever, its gone with the rekluse. You are free wheeling or not engaged w/ the engine any time you are basically not on the gas. So setting up the bike is always with the brake(s) or slowing down, even taking some pace off, always the brake. Going down hills if big are always on the brakes. For technical type woods riding it was good for getting through the slow tank slapping stuff because you didn't have work the clutch or rev the bike. Just find the right gear and "hog" the bike through without stalling out. Another nice thing in the woods was you could pinch both brakes and stand the bike up to a dead stop in any gear and shift down and to 1st , 2nd and go. No stalling. Huge when you're riding 1 1/2 to 2 hours and are numb to your elbows.

Really do have to keep up on maintenance on the thing. Checking every 10 to 15 hours or so. I didn't and scattered the clutch and my cover out on a MX track. Bottomline save your money, learn how to use your clutch properly and you can rip any track or trail. I don't know of any pros in the AMA or GNCC that uses this thing and at a certain level of riding its more of a hassle than a help.

What are the chances you didn't set up your Rekluse properly? I have engine braking almost all the way down to idle. If you set the stall speed up properly you should not lose engine braking capabilities if you so desire.

Same here...all the way down to idle. If I lock up the rear it freewheels until I just barely 'blip' the throttle then I have full engine braking back.

I absolutely love it offroad but I still haven't come to terms with it on the track...but I do not have the perch adjuster so that may have something to do with it.

Ditto

And by the way, I love mine, I race eastcoast harescrambles, and run the Hatfield/McCoy trails (just a little background:) )
