My cousin bought a new WR 250 in June 2006. Last week we were riding and after about an hour his would not keep running. He had to have the choke on or it would die. It would start fairly easy but as soon as he turned off the choke it would die. No mods have been done to his bike. Please help.

How long has it sat without running?

A plugged pilot jet will give you the exact symptoms you describe. Run with choke on and die with choke off.

that would seem weird that it would happen while riding...jet shoudln't be clogged

1. check fuel screw
2. check exhaust for cracks, have seen the exact same symptoms from this

Check to make sure the hot start is not stuck and the air boot is not cracked or slipped open.

Thanks for the help. I'm the cousin in question, and I flicked (for lack of better term) the hot start a few times and could hear it moving in the carb, I guess, and started it with the choke on, then after I let it warm up, it actually kept running! I road it around the block a few times, idled it with clutch and in neutral and it seems to be working.
