Here's Tag Metals' listing for rear sprockets:

Rear Sprocket

YZ 125 ---- 99-05
YZ 250 ---- 99-05
YZ-F 250 ---- 01-05
WR-F 250 ---- 01-05
YZF 400 ---- 98-99
WR-F 400 ---- 98-00
YZF 426 ---- 00-02
WR-F 426 ---- 01-02
YZF 450 ---- 03-05 (should be 03-07)
WRF 450 ---- 03-05 (should be 03-07)

All take the same #25001 sprocket.

You bought the wrong part. The information you got here happened to be correct in this case.
