Left battery on a couple days last summer and it went bad. Do I need to buy another sealed battery? I don't ride moto's and I'm not laying it down all the time but I do ride a lot of whooped out trails. The non-sealed batteries are $50 cheaper than sealed and I'd rather save the money. Any thoughts, or does anyone have a non-sealed battery with no problems? I did break down and buy a battery tender so it doesn't happen again.

Those batteries are sealed for a very good reason. All that bouncin around can make the top come off.So ive been told.I am actually looking to get a new battey myself. If you pop a top off and get the acid or what ever is in them can get very messy and dangerous and even catch fire. You could go cheap but have you tried aftermarket batteries?

Definitely replace it with another sealed battery - particularly because it
sits on it's side under the seat. wr250frcr is correct - with all the shaking
the battery is subjected to, a sealed battery is safer - particularly one that
sits on its side.

I just asked my dealer and was quoted somewhere around 90 bucks sealed and I think 40 bucks non-sealed. I guess I'll have to shop around for a sealed one, do you have any suggestions where to buy?

I killed my battery by leaving the ignition on and decided to experiment with a 1.2 ah SLA battery for $10 before getting a full spec replacement. So far it has always been able to turnover the motor whenever I needed to. As a beginner I have my fair share of hot starting! I tend to kick start whenever I can and if it is awkward / or I am tired I use the button. Nor I have I had to top up the battery with a charger in between rides. At $10 it is worth trying to see if it works for your riding requirements.
