My buddy bought an 07 wr 250....we got it running right, after several mods..But that damn clutch just sucks..I cant believe Yamaha is sellng bikes like this..The damn thing wont disengage...we put yz springs in it...Its still the same..There is a lot of different mods listed to fix it...The yz springs was one of them...
theres....
drilling holes in basket,
using new oil,
just letting it wear in,
removing outer discs in clutch pack,
79 cent washer fix,
yz springs,
replacing with Mooseclutch plates,
longer clutch actuation arm
asv clutch lever

This is acceptable to Yamaha...????
great Idea, why dont they sell the bike with a clutch that works..???
Without replacing the whole damn thing, what else should we do at this point..?? The yz springs was supposed to work..The bike still creeps when the clutch is pulled in..And neutral a bitch to find..Yes we also ran out of adjustment...It got a little better...but still not disengaging completely...
It just seems theres not enough room in the pack for the plates to seperate..
WHAT REALLY WORKS...???

I doubt its a lack of oil issue. That would be a whole different can of worms. Sounds like the pressure plate issue. If you remove a disc you will increase clearance and its easy to do.

You realize the main adjustment in down on the crankcase and the perch is just minor tuning......just checking :)

What type of oil are you useing? If its too thick for the temp.,then the clutch will drag.

Dont use YamaLube. I used it on my 06 and had those problems. Switched over to Bel-Ray 4-Stroke Thumper Racing Oil. Works fine now.

On the inside of the clutch pack there is a disc and a " spring " disc..A disc bent in the middle to perform as a spring...keeping the plates together, pushing them towards the outer cover...He took them out..and the bike shifts perfectly...finds neutral, doesnt creep, can start it in gear with the clutch pulled in..Rode it for 3 hours today..ran fine..used the clutch a lot in a boulder strewn wash..no problems..works perfect..just like my 426..I will update this as more time passes..

The two discs one,.062 thick, and the spring disc, .020 thick were put in the wr to prevent slipping of the clutch..so the clutch wouldnt wear too fast causing yamaha to have to replace worn out clutches before the warranty expires..Purposely slipping the clutch, which is a riding technique,on the torquey 250 would wear out the plates prematurely.

Removing these discs gives the plates more room to seperate and disengage properly..my cr doesnt have these discs, never has had them and the clutch works fine, working like a clutch supposed to work..The tech at a local dealer assures me theres no problem in removing them..He agreed, out of the box the wr clutches work like crap..removing the discs makes the clutch work like it supposed to..This is what I found out..just passing along our experience with the 07 clutch..

With the engine dialed in and the clutch working properly now, the bike was a blast to ride yesterday..I ride a 426, and I was impressed with the 250..nice bike..

we also have the yz springs in it, I dont know ,if the stock springs were left in and the dics removed if you would get the same results,if anyone tries this ,let us know..

we use 20 /40 yamalube, after the discs were removed...the bike ran fine..clutch disengaged properly..

I think after the clutch plates wear a while, more room is in the pack, making the clutch disengage more..more room for plates to seperate..
