I think this site makes a lot of sense, and next rebuild or if I get a new bike, I'm using this procedure for break-in.

Used that exact method on my 06 model and the piston looks brand new after taking it apart last weekend, no blow by at all on the piston and had no dramas with the bike.

I also put some cheap as Mineral Car oil to run it in as mentioned and no dramas at all, dont be afraid to do it.
