Cycra Solution Mount on WR450?

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,

After many miles and lots of abuse, my Acerbis handguards bit the dust last weekend, and took my clutch perch and cable to the big parts bin in the sky.

I'm looking for the best, most stable handguard system out there to replace them. Judging by the other posts on the topic, installing the triple-clamp mounted Cyra handguards on a WR is a PITA that I don't want to deal with.

Cycra has a new mounting system called the Solution Mount - http://store.cycraracing.com/prrapawisomo.html and more pics at http://www.cycraracing.com/techtips.html.

Anyone mounted this on a WR 450? I would love to hear how well it works.

I'm really wondering if the center mounting bar rubs up against the headlight assembly, obscures the odometer, or makes hitting the ignition button difficult. Are there other interference issues with cables or anything else?

Hopefully someone has tried this out. Thanks in advance.

Ben

I have an '06. Fastways are what I ended up with. They versitile from bar bend to bar bend. They don't work with universal bar mounts. You can use YZ bar Mounts for 1-1/8" bars. They were more money but I'm very happy with them. My MSR handguards didn't work with my Renthall twin walls.

I've got a set of Enduro Engineering guards. They're very strong, no-nonsense units. I've heard that Moose sells almost an exact copy of them. They mount very easily, 7/8 or oversized, depending on the clamps you order, and should take at least as much abuse as your handlebars will withstand.

Anything they give up in the looks department to Factory 909 and Cycra, they make up for in ease of use and functionality.

I asked this question earlier this year and didn't receive much of a direct response. Perhaps someone by this time has tried the Cycra Solution Mount on a WR450.

Anyone? What interference did you have with the headlight, ignition, and/or odometer?

Thanks,

Ben

I haven't used it but It looks like that is what I will need. I tried mounting up the triple clamp mounts but there is too many mods to make to make it works right plus it gets the bar gets in the way of the brake line when I have the brake lever adjust for my personal fit.

I'll be returning the triple clamp and getting either the Solution mount or the "U" clamps. I'll report back when I am done.

I just ordered a set of "U" clamps for my CYCRA's, hoping to have more freedom with brake and clutch perch position... other than that I have been totally satisfied with my CYCRA's.

I learned long ago that the triple clamp mounts are a PITA and POS:thumbsdn:

I installed a solution mount on my 07 and yes it does block the speedo. Kinda hard to read the #s but it worked. The other thing I didnt like was that I couldnt rotate the gaurds down very far to cover the levers. I tryed the u mounts but the cables rubed on them to much and bound up they adjusters. Just my 2 cents.

Good information. I'm in the same boat as many of you. The handlebar clamps (which I have) are binding my cables. The triple clamp mounts are (which I've tried) just too much of a pain on my '04.

If I don't have to fabricate brackets or anything, I may just have to give the solution mount a try. If anyone has pics of this setup I would be grateful.

I mounted up a set of cycra's today with the u bolts. It works well for the clutch side but was a pain on the brake side. The e-start pushes the brake over too far so I had to trim back some plastic on the button housing.

I am having problems with the colution mount and the right handgaurd is hitting the banjo fitting on the brake line. I am not sure what I am going to do about this. So far i am thinking that the solution mount is not the solution for the yamahas

After raising my bars 30mm (5mm with the YEC kit and 25mm with custom spacers and bolts) the triple clamp mount system fit. I have plenty of clearance for the brake line and all the other bar mounted controls. I still had to fudge the headlight shield a bit. Basically just used 2 zip ties to hold it to the original bolt holes. The brackets also had to be bent in a touch but nothing major.

So far so good, though I have not crash tested them. :applause:

Will get a picture up later.
