Hey fellas...
You know the guy who has some $$ laying around and wants to build a nice bike? Well... he came to me and asked to build Baja Pre-Run XR650R.

Talk about a great fun oppurtunity!!

I thought I'd share this bike, and what it has into it.
It's something we all dream of doing, building a bike with unlimited funds. Obviously this bike isn't built to everyone's ideas... but it suits it's purpose.

It's 99% done... as I have a few more things to complete on it.
(not yet completed - stator rewind, rekluse clutch, BajaD Diablo headlight, Trail Tech Vapor install, BajaD tall soft seat...etc)

Here ya go.... (FRANKSTR, if you think it necessary... you can move this to the "picture" forum if you deem necessary. Just thought all the XR owners might want to know what's done, or into this bike)

... I can post a spreadsheet if ya really wanna know! But it's up in the $6K+ in parts alone.

Unlimited budget??? I suspect replacing the plastic skidplate is on your list. I used to race D38 back in the early 80's. Guy by the name of Otis Fudpucker ran them. Is he still around?------------Rethy

Fud isn't around any longer.. but, D38 is. And ya... there's many out there with memories of the FUD days. Me being one of them even though it wasn't too often.

.. and yes, the skidplate is on the list... and actually on the garage floor. :censored:

I wasn't aware that the baja bikes were running rekluse clutches. Fun project!

Where did you get that seat cover? I'm tired of sliding around on my couch.

Where did you get those frame guards that are at ankle level? Those are sweet. Did you drill the frame to rivet those in?

Those are killer triple clamps/handlebar combo. What kind of stabilizer are you running? Is that a dipstick mount?

Someone was telling me that the Excel rims are very strong but brittle and can crack on very hard impact compared to the stock rims which bend. Keep in mind though that that is very hard impact. Also, I don't know if you are planning on using honda pits, but I'm not sure if they work with aftermarket rims.

Best of all - I dig the reasonable use of stickers. I thinks its funny how some people put $200 of stickers on their bike.

Nice work!

Hehehe.... I'm not sure if the owner is going to sell all the stock parts, wheels, triple clamps...etc. I've asked, and he "ho hums" about it. And sorry to say, I've got a couple buds with "dibs".

well, I'll come out and say it. POST THE SPREADSHEET. Please. Curious about the whole handlebar/triple clamp and rear axle areas particularly, ass well as the rest of that sweet ride. Good job, now come work on my 600R.

Spreadsheets coming, next post. It'll answer most all your questions.

1 - I wasn't aware that the baja bikes were running rekluse clutches. Fun project!

2 - Where did you get that seat cover? I'm tired of sliding around on my couch.

3 - Where did you get those frame guards that are at ankle level? Those are sweet. Did you drill the frame to rivet those in?

4 - Those are killer triple clamps/handlebar combo. What kind of stabilizer are you running? Is that a dipstick mount?

5 - Someone was telling me that the Excel rims are very strong but brittle and can crack on very hard impact compared to the stock rims which bend. Keep in mind though that that is very hard impact.

6 - Also, I don't know if you are planning on using honda pits, but I'm not sure if they work with aftermarket rims.

Best of all - I dig the reasonable use of stickers. I thinks its funny how some people put $200 of stickers on their bike.

Nice work!

1 - ... remember, it's a pre-run "fun" bike. Not a racer. Not that it matters however, I race with a Rekluse on a 450X.

2 - that seat cover pictured is stock. Baja Designs will supply a "gutz" seat cover and tall foam next.

3 - frame guards mount with stock hardware. Pretty simple and clean.

4 - Not a dipstick mount, it's the off set stabilizer.

5 - Excel? Well... if you think they are brittle, check out from friend Jimmy's bike from last weekend in this post >>> click here <<<

6 - Again.. remember guys... it's a "play" bike. Not a racer. :ride:

... I'll get that list of parts out now on a separate post.

Motor is stock... yes. (best way to have it in my opinion)

The header wrap is MOOSE WRAP. It's used just for this purpose and comes in a 50' roll. Kind of spendy, but I'll do a bunch of bikes with it to help it's cost.

:censored:
... on the other hand, the bike made it's maiden voyage and did 90 miles this Sunday.
The owner loved it and couldn't believe the difference over stock (due to PC suspension
and RTT damper.. gearing...etc). I'll finish the bike next week (as work has me out of town
for a week) and get on the 450X that's also getting a makeover.

Boooosh...

Nothing "double top secret" in the list... it's all bolt on.
So no reason to archive it, and set it to self destruct.

... hopefully if someone was to directly copy your bike. They'd at least change the darn colors! :ride: *hint* *hint*

 :applause:

It'll come soon enough with pics in the 450X forum.

... and the X is a bit cheaper than the 650R I posted. :applause: I'd only owe you about $5400. HaHaHa...

I just posted a thread on info for the opened up air box side panel- you stated you prefer a stock motor, but went with the opened up side panel- what is you opinion on the preformance gain from this mod?
