What bulb type for 650R tail lamp?

Need a new tail lamp bulb; old one broke so I can't read the type and neither the service manual nor the Service Honda fiche are helpful... Anyone got the skinny?

It's a 194 style bulb, I actually spliced in another 194 socket that i use for the tailight, and found a company who makes 194 socket LEDs, they are pretty bright and don't get hot. Here is a pic of my setup.

Neat! Looks like you've moved away from the stock socket setup though- mine is all black and only has space for one bulb...

I converted mine from wheeling cycle supply, listed above as a sponsor, & glad I did! I kept messing up filiments in the old stock bulbs. The new led set up is made for our bikes. It bolts in the existing holes & is only$12.95 ish plus S&H. Wish I'd done it long ago. Call Forrest at Wheeling now.

The stocker is a #68 incandescent bulb. I also swapped mine over to an LED bulb that fit a 194 socket (stock wedge type), but it is not quite as bright as stock. The good thing is that it draws about 1/10th of the power and will not burn out filiments. However I have to say that I like Wickedsprint's set up better as being a dual.

Thank you very much, I did have to shave down those sockets quite a bit to get them to fit, just plain jane 194 sockets from advance auto parts though.

Actually the guy who did it first was on a 650r & I asked if the fit a 600r. Same.

Hey, that's cool. I have never seen your setup, but it's pretty damn close to what I just did to my pig. I used 9-LED, 1157 bulbs. I mounted them without any sockets. One is the running light, and the other is the brake light. I have a switch on both front & rear, so either/or will turn on the brake light. And, since I was bored, I used the stock LED running light off a 2005 Suzuki DRZ400 and wired it up as a second brake light mounted on my license plate.

I used to have Baja Design's brake light upgrade kit (bought back in '04 before they doubled the price). It used a 68 Mini bulb, which is the same socket as a 1157, but has a 1/2 size globe. Maybe it was because of the stator re-wind I have, but no matter how I adjusted the mounting, the bulb would always start melting the lens, just slightly. Eventually, the lens would crack, and the bulb would blow.

So, I got the idea of LED bulbs. I ordered 2 9-LED #68 bulbs from www.superbrightleds.com. First I tried just replacing the standard bulb. The LED wasn't near as bright as I had hoped. The running light was okay, but the difference between it and the brake light wasn't enough. Since I ordered two bulbs, I tore out the socket, and mounted both bulbs inside the lens. I wired it up so both contacts on one bulb are the running light, and both contacts of the other are brake light. Having a bulb go from off to on is much more attention grabbing than having both bulbs get slightly brighter.

P.S. The stock 194 bulbs are stocked at any auto parts store for a fraction of the price as a motorcycle shop will sell them to you. I bet Wal-Mart stocks 194 bulbs.
