I spoke with my local dealer last week and asked him about the new Gas Gas 400. He said he was not sure of the release date, but new it would be in 2002. Apparently Gas Gas invited all dealers to Mississipi for an informational meeting, although he was unable to go, and a release date was given. Anybody know anything?

According to a German magazine that had a testride with it, the bike started at the firts turn of the e-start(no kick mounted). I will put some text here from the test:
They were excited by the engine, it will pull high rpm with very good traction. The engine itself had a high braking power on closed throttle. According to the development, it was a pre-production so this should be worked out. The engine is programmable, from smooth to aggressive power. Shifts exact and light, clutch working light. Steering was very stabil and precise, also thanks to the öhlins/wp components. It retails here around 7400 Euro, wich is 6700 USD.
Not mentioned when it will be available.
Hope to have given some info of use.

thanks for the replies. I have emailed all the Gas Gas sites (not dealers) and have recieved no reply. I have even asked for a reply on why I got no replies....nothing. Is this the way this company operates. What a bunch of idiots ,who do they think buys their bikes?
