I have an '06 which I have fitted a Drd pipe, Boyzen Quickshot, Vortex CDI unit & Clarke 10.6 litre tank to. I run 14 tooth front & 52 tooth rear sprockets & get approx 150km's depending on how hard I push it. Hard tracks 30% & soft beachy sand tracks 70%.

Cheers

I unfortunatly have to 2nd the 30-35 mile range. I am kind of dissappointed with my range, because where I ride, we like to go for 40-50 mile loops, and do hill climbs. The hill climbs are where it really sucks it down.

I would like to get a larger tank, but not too big because I still want to keep some of the good handling.

I'm used to the XR 250 where I would get about 110 miles to a tank no problem, I never have to refuel that thing!

My 06' wr450 has the Clarke 2.8 gallon tank with all the free mods and jd jet kit. I range from 80 to 100 miles depending on terrain.

I get approx 10 km to a liter so could only do 80 to 90 km rides. Fitted a 12.5 IMS tank and can now do 130 to 140 km rides. very technical rides I only get about 80 to 90 km on the large tank.

I don't know what the best was but the worst I ever got was around 20 - 25 mile per gallon. I didn't do any real research but after 45 miles it wouldn't fill a coke can and that was bone stock.

Went on a 50 mile ride Saturday. I have an 07 450 and a friend an 06. We both have done some mods. Terrain was some single track but mostly 2 track, powerline and forest service roads...spent most of the time in high gear. We intentionally tracked our miles on a GPS and refueled at a station afterwards. I got 37 and he got almost 50 but I'm into the throttle much more than he is. I'm disappointed also as I came off of my WR250 that I routinely got over 60 mpg. Wondering if it will get better mileage after more break in time.

I rode rolling singletrack with some decent length climbs over the weekend (@ Georgetown for those N. Cal.'s out there) and got 50 miles out of my tank before tapping into the reserve. I can usually get 45-50 out of a tank.
I have an 05 WR with all the free mods and a Pro Moto Billet insert and am jetted for high elevation (6,000-8,000) in the summer. Seems to run just fine at the lower elevations in the winter with the same jetting.

Man, some of you guys are getting crap fuel economy! My '99 usually gets about 35 mpg. With a Clarke 3.3 gallon tank, that's just over 120 miles per tank. I have gotten as good as 45 mpg. The funny thing is that one guy in our riding group has an '04 WR450 and his bike burns less gas than mine does.

Last weekend we did a 30 mile loop before lunch and when we went out after I had to add about a gallon to top off. This is after riding 80% single track. I know my bike is running rich right now, and I have gotten over 50 miles out of a tank before without hitting reserve. If you are getting crappy milage check your jetting.

About 130 miles on a tank with 2002 WR426 (12 liters/3.17 US gal), removed airbox lid and screen, Uni filter, Power Now Valve, porting/manifold matching, NGK iridium IX plug, YZ timed, FMF Powerbomb SX header, 1-1/8" outlet on Canadian muffler, 15/47 gearing, 130/80 rear, Amsoil 0W40 synthetic... That's 50 mpg (imperial) or 42 miles per US gallon of 40% 100LL (low lead) aviation gas with 60% 91 octane.

My 426 has always been great on gas. The 450 is not, for some reason, and has only an 8 liter (2.1 US gal) tank...
Is your jetting stock? Does it run well? Is your air filter over oiled? What grade of oil are you using in the engine? Do you have an iridium spark plug?

I have a '07 WR and I like to ride it like a two stroke reving it into the higher rpm's. I managed to get between 70 - 80km on a tank. If you short shift you will probably get +-90km. I have now fitted the 3.1 gallon IMS and get between 120 - 130km on a tank. As my average Sunday morning ride is +-95km I now have enough fuel to ride the bike they way I want without running out of fuel (run out of fuel three times allready).

I checked the TT store and it doesn't list any IMS tanks for the 06 450. Obviously they have them because this guy ^^^ got one for his 07. I'd like to get a bigger tank, it seems that mine runs out way too soon. And the hillclimbs really use it up.

The IMS tank is the same tank that fits a YZ450 06 / 07.
