Overhaulin' : 1993 XR600

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Thought I would share my project with the group. Bought a 1993 XR600 for $400. It was the biggest heap of shizz I have ever seen. The guy totally lied to me on the phone. Drove 2.5 hours and saw this roach! Engine in a bucket!!I was pissed and let him know. He caved and sold it for $400. He prolly got the upper hand anyway. Here are the photies.

Anyhows, when life gives you lemons..........

Brought her home and went to work. Went through the entire motor. Every frigg'n nut and bolt seized. The bike came from Idaho, parked under the porch, and I was told and didn't listen- they work them like rented mules and repair shops are scarce. $2800 later and some blood, sweat and tears.

Turned out nice but I was frapped. Sold the bike (2500) because I didnt want to scratch her and I was emotionally drained (Ebay...til 3am). Now I regret it!

Bought a new XR650R but I wish I had them both.

Please share your photos!! I love to see guys pimp out their bikes. Its almost more fun than riding. If the nutsacks who write magazine articles in Dirtbike and Dirtrider could ever figure that out, they would sell more rags. There is only so many $12,000 CRF450 hop-up articles a guy can take!! The most interesting article I have seen come along in a while was the dude who restored a 1987 YZ250 in DR this month.

Lets see those six-honey's!!

Well played. But I must admit, it gives a guy like me dirty ideas. I'm supposed to be riding my 600 into the ground (to be replaced in a few years by a new 450). But looking at this, and thinking the process and enjoyment it could bring....wow.

Whoever got that bike is a lucky person.

Work in progress:

I found this orphen lying on it's side in a field at my brother-in-law's uncle's house.

People should be slapped for letting a bike get this bad.:ride:

I couldn't help myself - it was like seeing an abused dog at the SPCA.

I'll have over 2 grand into her by the time I'm done.

  • 2 months later...

Ohhhhh baby it makes a guy want to park his bike in the garage and spend a few months on a rebuild project! I have a 93' xr650l that could use some tender love and care. I love the red frame, hell I love the entire bike.

Any tips, tricks, and advice for us novice mechanics would be wonderful for a project like this.

Thanks for the thread:thumbsup:
