Price on a plated 2002 XR 650, this any good?

Recommended Posts

I need your guys opinion, when it comes to priceing a dirt bike out with a plate, im clueless. I found a 2002 XR 650, it has a bunch of aftermarket stuff (clames around 2500 to 3000), a Baja dualsport kit, a larger tank, (not sure how big though), and some other stuff. It is plated, the guy said he did it in Washington about three years ago. Most or all of the stock stuff comes with the bike.

He is asking 3700, I think he is firm on the price but I dont know if it is out of line or not. Your thoughts?

Here is his discription and a picture-

Perfect Condition 2002 XR 650R. Registered, Street Legal Conversion with License-without loosing off road capabilities. Tons of extras. No disappointments.

Depends on how good the condition is and what the extras actually consist of. Add in mileage/hours. \ \\

In the ball park for sure.

Hey, where abouts in WA are you? Bought my '00 in Spokane for $3,700 this past spring. Bike has similar mods to the one you're looking at. The fact that it's registered already is a huge deal here in WA if you didn't know that already. The seller was firm on the price & I snapped it up. No regrets.

Over two years ago I paid 2900 for a 2001 650R with similar mods, unplated. I plated it myself in VA, which is pretty simple and easy compared to WA.

If you're serious about an R, jump on it. Decent price.

Regarding your tag "IHScoutII", cool. I got a '63 Scout, with a '69 V8 drivetrain, axles. My son did a frame-off resto on it several years back. A real sweet tank.

Ride safe, and good luck on the R. Let us know what you decide.

Nice, do you have any pictures? Its amazing how capable scouts are when they are stock. Im prabably doing a big no-no in the Binder community by putting in a 350 chevy in mine, the Nissan diesel just didnt cut it. Its pretty sad when a 3-cyl metro can go faster than you. :ride:

That price is in the ballpark for a street legal XR650R, but his price is high. To get that kind of money for it, it would need to be newer ('04+ or thereabouts), or have some really good extras (scotts steering damper, a decent revalve, edelbrock, excel rims, billet triples or a good full system are items that come to mind). As a comparison, I hopped off of craigslist for souther california (IE the highest bike prices in the US) a few minutes ago and saw an 02 with all of the goodies listed above and more with what looked like very few hours for $3700 as well, and I felt that price was pretty standard. I personally wouldn't pay more than $3200-$3400 3G's for the bike you pictured, and that would be if it was in Cali and street legal.

If your not hurting for a bike, I'd highly recommend waiting for a modded out one to come along. I own 3 street legal XR680R's, two of which I bought all of the extras myself and one I bought already with everything on it. The one I bought with all the parts already installed set me back $3700 (magic number, eh? :ride: ) and that was less than 1/3rd of the money I had in aftermarket parts alone for EACH of my other XR680R's. So, lesson learned, try and get a bike already set up. :ride:

I gave $3700 for a plated 01 in SoCal, when you are bagaining you start thinking about the money, as you take it home in the back of the truck you still wonder if it was really worth the money. But..... when you fire it up and head out for a ride, giving it a good twist on the throttle is when you realize you got a great deal. The more you ride it the more you realize what an incredible :ride: machine you just bought. So my advice it buy it, ride it, and love it. Welcome to the world of the Big Red Pig, you will not regret the price of admission.:ride:

I paid 3600 for a plated 01 last summer - don't think I paid too much. It was in great shape, Edelbrock, Ricky stator, FMF Q pipe, billet rack. It was the first one I found within driving range and plated. The thing around here is that I cannot plate a bike in Wisconsin that's not already plated somewhere else, so I was ready to pay more for a Minnesota bike just to get that out of the way

Since I bought mine, I have not seen another one selling a better price anywhere, and definitely not any '04 or newer bikes. Fully tricked out bikes with steering dampers and other stuff go for $4500 or more.
