i put this in the wr forum... oopps so anyways mods can delete that one this is the right forum...

just did an oil change on my bike, first time since i got my 426, i have only ridden it like 4 times. When i got it all done the clutch was super grabby, i mean like horribly grabby. i was pretty pissed. is this because i have too much oil in the bike? I drained all the old oil out and refilled it to fatory spec. Then when i got it out to the desert i rode it and progressivlyu through the day it got better. the only problem is im leaking orl from somwhere.. it looks to be comming from the head pipe or somewhere in that general vasinity. i checked the oil before i shut it off for the last time in the day and the oil level was perfect. and you wnat to know something else? the clutch was smmoth as silk. i may have answered my own question but now im wondering about that oil. i'll post pics later in the day. im new to the liqued cooled high preformance 4 stroke game.... flame away!!!

A little oil makes a huge mess, so I doubt that you're leaking enough to have lowered the oil level very much during the day's ride. If by "head pipe" you mean the exhaust header, then you might want to check for a leak at the compression release shaft seal. If there's no compression release because the auto decompression cam mod has been done, be sure there is something in the bore where the shaft went. It's in the front of the head, about an inch above the header at 11:00 o'clock.

The 2000 YZ426F came with a notoriously grabby clutch. It wouldn't have been sensitive to the oil level, but could have been touchy about the oil condition, and the clean oil, or a change to a different blend, or a couple of other things may have set it off. The cure for this is to install a new set of the current OEM clutch plates for an '01 YZ426, including the seat plate, 5JG-16384-00-00, the boss spring, 5JG-16383-00-00, and the bottom friction plate, 5JG-16321-00-00. If the clutch basket and boss (hub) are in good shape, this will fix the problem.
