Finally pulled the trigger. Said goodby to the 525 yesterday (kinda sad to see it go). Really excited about picking up the new bike though and getting to work on it. Won't be riding it for a while, just a bit too cold here in the UK.

Got a list about a mile long of stuff I'm having shipped over from Chaparral. Looks like Christmas is comming a little late this year but at least it's comming.?

I bought my 07 in late December, 3 rides so far you'll love it! Definitely check spokes before/after each ride for the first few times. I am still tightening them. I checked my sprocket bolts and will before each ride just to make sure nothing comes loose.

I haven't ordered one yet, but am told that an aftermarket fuel valve is a must, that will be my next purchase. Then I'll go with a oring chain.

I plan to repack the swing arm linkage and steering column with grease as soon as I get my spanner wrench in the mail. This is also recommended by many.

if you loctite the sprocket bolts after break in - they will stay snug...I have done this on 6 yzfs...no problem...I like you use to believe they must be tightened each time...and that is when they came loose...you will deform the bolts...

What is a aftermkt fuel valve and why is it a must?

Repack all bearings asap...they are dry from factory..you can use a hammer and a punch to loosen and tighten the headstay, until that spanner wrench comes in...?:confused::crazy:

- The fuel valve is aka - Fuel mixture screw - on the carb...quick adjustment for parts of air for parts of fuel to maximize the best output for the fuel being burnt...

I'm sure grey will have a much better explanation but that's how I understand it.

Can anyone go into more detail about how to grease and repack these and what to use? I have a new '06 and probably should figure out how to do this. Does the manual give detailed instructions?

What grease did you use? Just curious, I'm gonna upgrade (not belray) the grease for the linkage and steering column and was looking for recommendations. Thanks.

No, not since at least '06. Mine didn't have it.

I used Amsoil Synthetic Heavy-Duty Grease, NLGI #2, GC/LB (Product ID GHD). It has a high level of moly lubricants added in, and has good resistance to water washout. Any similar #2 Extreme Pressure, water resistant, moly bearing grease would also work.

Lubed the swing arm linkage for the first time. Went fairly well, not real difficult. There is one nut that is hard to get tight. Didn't see much grease in the bearings at all! I am glad that I took the time to get er dun. Steering column is next, bought the aftermarket mixture screw as well.

Be sure to pull the pin before you remove the allen bolt for the rear brake pedal. I followed the manual to the tee except for the stupid brake removal:bonk: . Wasn't prepared for the pin at all, bent the thing in half trying to remove the bolt. My KX didn't have a pin.........lol
