These are 2 different things

I just pulled my carb today and have it all packed up to be shipped out tomorrow... How long did it take you guys from shipping it out to getting it back?

About two weeks.

I had time so I shipped ground.

It can be shipped faster for less down time.

Do it.

Something I would like to add about this mod.

I would not recommend it for a beginner.

The throttle response is so quick that I think it can/will get a less experianced rider into trouble.

If one of the reasons you bought this bike is because its so easy to ride, dont do it.

If you want to wake it up and add a lot more snap you will love it

I would modify your comments by saying that if you are a beginner, get everything done except the AP arm wiring. The AP arm wiring is what makes the bike a little skittish. The rest of the mods clean up the jetting throughout so there is no bog and are well worth the $100 by themselves because it starts like a dream and you won't need a Boyesen quickshot (or anything else) for the bog.:applause:

On second thought, get the whole mod. It is always easier to snip the wiring and undo the Redbeard Mod than it is to wire that sucker up yourself. Or do what I am considering - get a slightly larger GYTR flywheel to smooth out the sharp edges and reduce stalling in corners.

It took a while but I finally succumbed to my "peers" indirect pressure and sent my carb into ZipTy on Monday. I just got it back today (Im in SoCal) and I will make a couple of initial pre-ride observations:

- the outside of the carb is very clean

- they replaced a vent tube that had a charred section in it for...free

- they did the pump arm wire mod

- im sure they did the emulsion tube thing and the bla bla thing and the do hickey thing but Im too tired to read up on it or take the carb apart ;-(

- by request...they inspected my jetting (45 pilot 170 main) and recommended 48 pilot - 168 main <--it's warming up in SoCal) so I put their reccommended jets in the carb

Here is my setup:

2006 YZ450f

New Style Dr.D Can plus low-boy header for the radiator lowering kit

Pump 91 octane gas

Zip Ty fuel screw

R & D acc pump cover

needle stock position

Fuel screw 2.5 turns out

I'll be sure to follow up on Sunday after I race at Perris Raceway (Vet-X)

Have a good weekend guys...

I just took my 02 250F out for a 35+ mile trail ride with my new Zip TY carb mod and I think it was the biggest and best bang for $100. My 250F engine is heavily modified with a Varner Motorsports 262 kit, ported head, WEB cams with a WB header w/E2 muffler, of all the mods, I like this mod the best. I should have sent my carb to Zip Ty sooner. I noticed with the carb mod my bike is now "very snappy" with great, great, great throttle response, IMO it's about as close to the throttle response of a 2-smoke you can get with a 4-stroke motor! After riding my bike, my riding buddy is going to send his carb off of his 2005 YZ250F to Zip Ty.

Well, I got my carb back from zipty and took it out for the first ride on Saturday. All I can say is this mod is incredible, the old hesitation on quick throttle twists is virtually gone. It pulls quicker, smoother, and stronger as soon as you get on the gas.

One of the places I feel it helps best is in tight, rutted corners, where if you lose momentum or don't get on the gas fast enough it can die or front end wash from lack of momentum. With the throttle so much more responsive now it made it much easier in these situations to gas it and keep the momentum up without that usual delayed reaction... I was able to tractor out of even tight corners in third gear, it's just instant power from throttle twist.

If you haven't had this Mod done by Zipty yet, don't waste any more time, DO IT!!!! it will be the best 100 dollars you have ever spent on an upgrade. I can't believe how much better my bike feels and rides now, it really is an incredible difference.. I was planning on buying a Dr D pipe to get the low end power from it, but now I am not so sure I need it....awww, who am I kidding, I will get anyway....

  • 5 weeks later...

I have a 2007 YZ450F and Zip Ty Racing got my carb on Monday. I am so excited about getting it back after reading all the responses on here. If the results are what others say, this will make the bike a lot better. I'll tell you if I get the same results. WOOHOO. Can't wait.

I think you already answered your own question.

Tried to read through the string, sorry if this this is a repeat. Has anyone done this mod on a DRZS model? It seems like the thread deals mostly with the FCR carb and the S model does not have this only the E. I am trying to get my DRZ into my local shop here in Omaha but the waiting list is 2.5 weeks ! I am getting a lot of backfire from my DRZ, it is just not running well. But I am seriously considering getting this mod, if it can be done for the S model

Thoughts?

Add me to the list of satisfied zip-ty'd people for an 06' 450. 1 week ups from michigan and 1 week back from cali was a long wait but well worth it. I had high expectations from everything I read here and it lived up to every one of them. One added bonus that I can do now that I couldn't do before the mod is 5th gear throttle only wheelies. I could always clutch it up in 5th before but now I just whack it open in 5th, pull back lightly, and its wheelie time.
