chappie ohv is 1 mile from the dam.

Mostly roads and quad trails. I have only been there twice to ride and have only ridden on the dam side, the east fork side looks much better.

Other than that there are plenty of other places to rdie near Shasta Lake, you just need a little local knowledge and the secret handshake to find the goods.

Thanks for the posts! I figured since it wasn't too far South some of you might ride there occassionally.

MXJunky,
When's your birthday? I might get you a toaster that sticks since you love to burn Toast so much.

Like out toward French Gulch on 299. It is said the trails out there are insanely difficult. :worthy: I haven't ridden there, but lived in Redding for the longest two years of my life:rant: and I can attest to the significant slopes in the hills out west on Highway 299.

Even living in Ashland, that would be quite a haul to get to Chappie for riding. I would guess Ashlanders would rather head north to Jacksonville before going all the way to Redding.:prof:

What no one is saying is that you have to get all your riding in before May. After that, the dust is worse than EFR in August and September. Rains don't start up again in Redding until late November and then, when it rains, it is torrential. :bonk: It is the north end of the Sacramento Valley...maybe you've heard of the annual flooding that occurs? It is worst in Sacramento, but it reaches all the way north to places like Red Bluff. They get almost as much rain as Salem, only it is delivered in a 4 month period instead of 10.

Temperature doesn't go below 90F very often between May and November either.:lame:

If you are looking for places to ride around Redding,
the Nailer brothers ( Ronie and Donnie) are the ones you want to talk to.
They have lived in Redding their whole life and put in most all the trails off the 299 just past Wiskytown Lake. Man Killer Ridge and numerous other spots are all in the hills just west of Town. These guys are National level off road riders and have the hardest hill climbs you will EVER try. The stuff they do is flat out insane!!!! I am not a great rider by any means, but love to hill climb and have done every climb in the Burn area. I dident have the balls to try hardley any of their climbs. I just watched in awe as Donnie just flew up, gthen would jump off the top and come down as fast as he went up.
If you plan on a trip down there, let me know and I will get you Donnies #
But dont plan a trip there unless you are really, really good!
The Chappie area is easy and fun and a good spot for the average ridder. Lots of rocks though. It is just out of Redding.
