Hmmm, well, it doesn't really surprise me that they would go ahead & run a practice. That would the the track owner's decision to do that, & I don't blame him for that. I'm not a businessman, & don't play one on TV, but I'd guess the best way to make money at a track would be to have it open, & having people paying to ride on it.... :excuseme:
The guy who actually runs the races for the VDRNW (Vintage Dirt Riders North West) probably has to make the call to cancel the race based on a guess of how many riders will turn out, safety, & probably a bunch of other factors I can't begin to think of..... It costs him the same amount of money to put on a race, whether he gets 50 riders, or 300 riders. The guy's wife actually told me once that they need about 200 riders to show up to be able to cover all the costs of operating a race. Generally, most of the guys would race no matter what, and most will pay to ride 2 classes, but the really REALLY wet weather (flooded track and/or pit area), really cold weather, snow, & frozen track conditions will usually cause less than 200 riders to show up.....
Which just amazes me... As somewhat of an "outsider" (I'm a transplant from Oklahoma), I've been amazed at what most guys up here will ride in. It kinda surprises me when they have a tough time getting enough guys to ride a winter series. Up here, ya just gotta expect some wet weather, some mud, & some temps that make your snot freeze.... :bonk: I would like to have raced this weekend.
Did anybody practice up there today? How was the track?
