Another little trick we used in the shop was to coat the inside of the pipe with VHT header paint. While this is by no means a one time fix, it would seal up pin holes in the welds long enough to sort out any jetting issues without being sidetracked by popping. And no, slight popping on decel isn't going to harm your motor, unless it's so bad it sounds like a machine gun. That you would need to look into.
