I was talking to dnr about getting some maps and was told that I can ride at elbe hills. Has anyone ever been there before? I know its mainly for 4x4's but it might be nice for a casual ride

I haven't been there in about ten years. Last time I went, it was lots of mud and ruts from all the jeep traffic and not much else. I heard a few years ago that there's some new bike trail there, but haven't gone back to confirm that.

I also heard that there are about 7-9 miles of bike trails up there. Don't know about maps though for the bike trails. Probably not worth the time to go out there unless you live relatively close to Elbe. I know that there are some horse trails that are out in the Elbe area, a couple cross the road going up the 4x4 trails, not sure if they are for bikes also.

I have jeeped both places. Elbe is really muddy, lots of roots and water. If your good it would be fun.. I am not that good. Or am i to lazy for that much work? I have seen guys ride there before, they were really muddy. Evans is a blast for jeeping, but I have not ridden there for 15 years. More places to ride @ Evans (more trails)but snow may be an issue at both locations. Good luck and have fun. :ride:

Pictures here from May 06: http://www.tripleate...lbehills6may06/

There are a lot of spots that will give a novice rider problems. Some spots were pure hell. I rode there two time in 2006. I would say it is worth it one time but it isn't my fav place to ride for sure.

Oh ya, when I rode there in May 06 (the second time) right where the trail starts was a giant hole where the 4x4's rutted things out real bad. This massive hole was not there the first time I rode there.

This water hole did not make the boys very happy. I rode through it on my KTM,,, it is darn near too deep to pass. We had to take the boys bike around.

Oh they were pissed! I walked back on the hill and took the pic below. My brother in law and I brought the boys bikes up on the hill to get around the water. There is one trail I never took the boys on. The first time I rode Elbe I went on this trail with some friends and it was super hard, steep, muddy, wet, rutted but we made it. I have no idea what the name of that trail is if there is one,, should be called the nut buster. It starts out with a maze of deep 4x4 ruts filled with water and no way around them then turns into hill climbs,,, very difficult when wet.

Kinda sounds like you might be talking about Busy Wild, pretty much the toughtest trail there from what I hear. (here's a thread with recent pics)

That looks like the kind of water in the flat part.

Those pics aren't from the steep part. Yes those pics are from the busy wild trail. That is about the only trail I wouldn't ride on there. The rest are not too bad. Yes there is some puddles and roots and things but it is offroad riding :D The big hole near the campground on the sunshine trail is fixed now. That thing was a PITA even with a 4x4. Like others have said though there is not much for bike trails out there and it can be muddy. The big deep mud holes of 10 years ago are 90% covered up and not part of the trails anymore.

Just be careful if you go up to Elbe, people like to shoot out there. Usually it's at the end of the road in the pit.

We use to ride up there but anytime it rain it was pure h*ll. Those water dams they put in seem to funnel the water straight down the middle of the trail. We quit riding up there after I wiped out on one of those trails and landed on a big rock. No fun. I was done. But - that's been four years ago so things may have changed.
