I still can't feel my hands and feet. I cranked the heat in my truck from Belfair to Federal Way, but I was still shivering when I pulled in my driveway.:foul:

We rode last Monday and did the Overland loop out of Elfendahl. Steady rain, not warm and we feared a miserable ride but since we drove all the way there we weren't turning back.

On went the raingear and we took off. To our delight, we warmed right up(ran a pretty hot pace) and only encountered one group a short ways out.....the rest of it was ours. Finally got to see the bridge that is washed out from a year ago. I thought it was gone completely but it looked like you could damn near still ride across it. As many of you have probably seen through your own curiosity the bank is cut away underneath one end which makes it very unstable. Wonder when it will get fixed? A year has passed.

The puddles were around but I've ridden worse up there at times. We didn't get cold until we stopped and the wind picked up near the end. Just the lack of potential head-ons from other riders made the day right.

We gave it a thumbs up.

I can deal with rain all day long no big deal it's just the constant snow and cold on the Howell lake side that did us in. When we turned around there was 4-6 inches of snow and the trail was littered with bowed limbs carrying a snowman to toss down your shirt. FUN!

Ride, what about "windfalls", were they cleared? I'm toying with making a run over there, but with all the windstorms we've had, I'm hesitant.

Not a lot of windfall and most had been cleared. Where there was snow there were endless bowed branches in the trail with piles of snow to huck down your helmet.

I wasn't cold until we hit that single track. I had to stop and clear my helmet of snow a couple dozen times....BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Yeah, that two pounds of snow smashing you in the face every 20 feet was a little brutal. Thanks for leading

Ride,

Sounds like you had some conditions we didn't have to face. The snow was but a remnant when we went.....just little bits here and there. But I'm with ya on riding through fir boughs of whiplash snow....... Don't think i'd enjoy that a helluva lot either.

I think you answered in another reply but let me ask again to confirm. Was the Howell Lake loop clear? That was our first choice but decided against it for fear of too many windfalls yet uncleared......did you complete the loop?

We did not complete the loop but a large portion of it was just fine.

Ride, sounds like you guys should've brought some heat packs. I will be riding at Walker this sat. and will be sure to bring some. FINALLY got a decent pair of riding boots, so a little more confident about heading out in this stuff. Dirtbikesonny; I'd recommend Walker right now as most of the trails I rode last weekend were pretty tame, i.e. no snow. Maybe different now though. DUH!!

...I just found the NW section!

My son and I were out there a few weeks ago; before the big freeze. I swear I saw fish swimming in some of those puddles aglong Mission Creek Trail. So, we mostly rode the forest roads. We tried to get to the Howell lake trail, but there was way too much windfall at the trail head. There was a group of riders on quads that had a chainsaw clearing trails. Very nice of them...

Careful on the roads out there unless you're plated. You will get a ticket.

+1 on the ticket comment. We generally ride off on the trails, then pick up the roads a ways out. It's not too much of an issue in the Winter, but Spring and Summer it's gotten to be a real no-no thing to do.
