I spent five hours today clearing downed trees from trails at Reiter today. The lower trails are so-so but the upper trails (where the wind blows harder) are WASTED. It is going to take many, many man-hours to get it in shape for the Frostbite. I think I saw something about a Stumpie work party next weekend...I'll help if needed. Some of the trees took out other trees with them when they came down so many of the blockages look like a logjam in a river. Big trees also. Some of the areas look like it might be best to simply route the trail around them as the trees came down on some mud holes anyways.

I spent an hour clearing the road into the main parking area and when I came around the corner I saw that there is a massive blockage (see pic) that I did not want to tackle without somebody else being there to call the ambulance. So I went up high and I got one loop cleared and started on another really bad section...the clearcut area up near the microwave relay tower...when I finally (after five hours) had to throw in the towel. Got tired of sharpening the chain on my saw and I was getting low on saw gas.

I didn't even get a good ride out of it :foul: ...the stupid chainsaw was poking into by back and trying to slide forward so I had to stay seated like a goon the whole time...if I stood at all it would slide under me. The saw gas and oil in my pack didn't help any either.

Not fun to ride like this! The trials tire kicked a$$ though.

That's what our ride looked like last weekend. My buddy and I walking and cutting more than riding. We cleared about 7 miles of trail up there. I myself hated the trials tire in the snow. I changed from my s-12 to my trials wheel the morning of the ride and regreted that move all day long.

Wow, I found the trials tire worked great in the snow as well (as YZ426F Rider). It has been a noticable and notable improvement in traction and predictability since it went on in December (about 300 miles ago).

YZ426F Rider, I found it very manageable to put the saw in a junky backpack (basically a student bookpack) and just ride.

I find that I can ride at a fun pace even loaded up with the saw, extra oil, and gas. I now have a guard on the bar (not pictured).

Thanks Powder and 426 for clearing trail @ Reiter, I'd be up doing the same if I had my own saw. I think if people want to ride W. Wa trails anytime soon more people are going to have to step up to the plate like you guys. I wonder how that Scottish trials is gonna go this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Scott trial is a go. We have sawed out Packhorse 3 separate times, now. We will saw at first light tomorrow, if needed.
The course is set up with snow in mind, so come on out and ride.

The road into the upper parking lot is now cleared. I spent the day with another guy clearing the last part of the road after the corner. There are a couple more trees that have to come down but at least you can drive in now. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to unload my bike and do some riding :ride:
