I need some help with terminology. What is the snorkel...

Under the seat and on top of the air box you'll see a vented type piece riveted to the air box.Most guys drill the rivets and pull it out after putting a good filter in and re-jetting the carb.Lets alot more air get to the carb.

From your other post, I would imagine that your snorkle is long gone. It's just a rubber or plastic piece that goes in the airbox opening. It restricts the air intake a little and quiets the intake down some. Removing it lets more air in and more air means more power.
