07wr looks good but what up for 08 before I buy the 07??? help

Recommended Posts

I have to admit...... Im in love with the 07. I like it.......... I like it a lot.

But heres where the delima lies. I can only afford to buy a new bike every 5 to 6 years. I have a 99 plated wr400 and its hard to sell the plated bike to buy a new 07. What are the expected changes for the 08? Whats up with EFI and whats the addes cost going to be? Has yamaha said yet. If I am going to buy a new bike, and sell my plated wr400 I want to know if I should wait a year and if so, what for. If the changes arent much ill pull the trigger now. Help guys:worthy: , whats up for 08????

Only the Yamaha gods know whats up for 08. I am like you and cannot buy a new bike all of the time. I have an 05 and as much as I would "like" a new bike, I most certainly don't "need" one.

but as good as all of the bikes are today, it is getting really hard to tell the difference. You favor the Yamaha's. Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki ... all made in Taiwan!

I will not buy another bike that is not plated from the factory. You are in California just like me, so I know you understand where I am coming from. That means that I will personally hold on to my current bike until we get the plates.

So let's hope that they give us what we want the most... a plate!

I doubt we'll see fuel injection next year. '08 will probably see the same bike with the YZ forks and BNGs.

And, if you hold out till 2015, you might get a bike that can fly! See where I'm going with this?...SC

It seems to me that many people are under the impression that it takes a ferrari (i.e. "latest and greatest") to have a great time at the track, when in fact it doesn't.

If you're in love with the '07, buy it. If you wanna save a little extra dough and still have fun, buy a friggin' '04. My '98 started out as a POS w/ naught but a frame and I've since transformed it into a dualsport/enduro. And yes, it kicks a$s and is ridiculously fun.

Oh and btw, the whole cost to me for the entire project (including cost of the original frame) has been well under $1400.

Sure the '07 is neat; the '08, even neater perhaps. But I'd personally much rather have an older bike that is still wicked fun and save a lot of money.

Then again, it's your checkbook...

My 400 is plated and rips, I have no complaint at all. My ridin buddys got a new CRF450X and I smoke him in drag races so I really am not complaining at all about mine, Ive had ACL knee replacement, rotator cuff torn and sprained my ankle so bad that it will never be the same. It was never riding only loading the bike or other stupid things, One word of advise. Dont load your bikes with idiots around, it's dangerous. With all this said. Push a button and go sounds good rtight about now and if the 08 would have been a year to wait for I would but it doesent sound like it so.... Ill post pics of the new 07 hopefully by this time next week!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. Dakar rally this weekend starts tomorrow on OLN at 3pm EST. Set the tivo's and hope we dont loose another fellow rider this year.................

I highly doubt that Yamaha will unleash the EFI WR in "08". They typically wait a few years before putting out something new. I would think maybe 2009 0r 2010. Yamaha is very careful about their "next big thing" and this 07 is their "next big thing", think about it guys. I've been a rider for over 25 years and a Yamaha guy for over 10. This 07 WR 450F is Yamaha's pride and joy and it's the most unbelievable thing I've ever ridden.

I've got an '05 WR that I primarily race so I don't plan on owning it for alot of years. I've heard nothing but praise from people that have ridden the '07 YZ and it's new suspension. Both testers told me the new YZ suspension is by far the best stock suspension EVER and will out perform a suspension from any aftermarket shop. I'd wait til '08 and see if the YZ suspensio will be on the '08 WR, if it's not pick up an '07 next year for cheap. That's what I plan on doing.

The YZ suspension is for MX & much harder than the WR so I doubt whether they will be giving it to the WR which is a trail bike that requires a softer set up.

Hello... McFly....

That was a joke. The "made in Taiwain" reference was from the movie Armegeddon.

It is a way of saying that they are a very similar.

Woops?

I couldn't get past why they brought a big gun along. Guess I missed the whole "made in Taiwan" thing.

I don't think I'd hold out on for the 08. From what I've seen the model will go for 2 years before its changed unless it turns out to be a complete POS. The 05 and 06 WR's were the same. What they said they changed that would matter wasn't enough to even tell it from what I've read. The YZ is the same with the 06 and 07's. If you look at the 450 quads, Yamaha had 04 and 05 the exact same. Honda was the same way. Both changed for 2006 and stayed the same for 2007. The Yamaha got the bike top end and crank. The Honda isn't even comparable except for the looks. Suzuki came out with the new version of their Quadracer that is apparently as well thought up as the original Quadracers....they still fall apart and are EXACTLY the same for 2007. I agree with Clark. You can wait for 10 years and still be waiting for the new one. I have an 05 I bought new July of 2005. It looks like new aside from a new back tire and the tank stickers turning brown. I'll sell you it a lot cheaper then you can get an 07. pm me.
