'07 Spoke Check

Not a need to know how but a word of warning. Last night I witnessed a 3 week old 2007 YZ450F (White) lose just about every spoke in the rear wheel. Needless to say rider went down and had some choice words for his new steed. This was even after it was taken back to the dealer to tighten the spokes after the first ride.

CHECK YOUR SPOKES!!!!!! Sounds simple enough and we know we need to do it so be sure you do. This could have ended up real bad over a triple....

Don't forget to safety wire them to prevent that from happening!

Can't say enough about checking your spokes and sprocket bots... Do it after every ride. Or you could replace the parts when this happens.

thats a tough break!I have checked mine every ride and i have a total of 8 hours on the bike now and have only found 3 that have loosened up.That is something a guy needs to check before every ride,i agree.

While I agree you should check them every ride for prevention, I still believe that there is something wrong with having to do that. I have owned a lot of bikes, mostly hondas and never had to constantly check the spokes or worry about the sprocket bolts. Will using blue loctite prevent this?

Loctite will solve the sprocket issue. After loctiting my bots, I never had another problem. Spokes need to be checked every ride. Hell it doesn't take a lot to check spokes. 5 sec a tire...

Do the ding test... Ding Ding Ding Dong That ones loose...

Luckily I caught mine in time! At 2 hours or so of riding on my 05 I noticed that just about all of the bolts were loose.

it is safe to say the dealer probably never touched those spokes....a very easy job that every rider should know how to do....?

Why would you need to take it to a dealer to tighten you spokes? It comes with a spoke wrench. I have found that almost every bike I have owned (Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki) have had the spokes loosen a little when the bike is new. After tightening them once or twice, they seem to stay tight the rest of the bike's life. Still want to check them to be safe though.

I'm new to the yamaha side and have approx. 11-12 hrs on my 450 but so far have yet to have to tighten a spoke despite quite a bit of jumping. I have had many hondas in the past with my last two being 02 and 05 450's. The DID rims had many more problems than these EXCELS. Buy now on the hondas I would have already have tightened a lot of spokes. Are the EXCELS a better rim or am I just lucky so far?
