any problems with 2003 xr 650 l

i just found one for a sweet deal just needs a battery and tune up i rode it and it felt like the shifter was messed up or the tranny dosent lock up when in first gear is that normal any input helps

Not normal, probably why its a sweet deal. Could be the clutch slipping?
big bucks for tranny rebuild, if that is whats up? my L shifts seemlessly and smooth, doesnt miss second gear, etc....

if you are in 1st gear and you press down is it loose like its gonna down shift or is it stiff like its locked in gear

Has a little downward movement but not near what you move it to go from nuetral to first.
