On the topic of grip glue:

The two-part, syringe-style epoxy (yellow/clear) that can be found at any hardware store for $5 works like a charm, and has enough glue to install a half-dozen grips. Sets in 5 min. and cures overnight. Paired with some wire, I've never had one come loose.

Are all stock shims the same? I have an 05 CRF450R and the #'s on the shims are worn off. Are they all the same or do they vary from bike to bike and adjusted on the assembly line?

I'm about to get my new 07 CRF450 and was wondering if there were any write ups as to what the best aftermarket pipe was after testing all the different makes etc?!

Check out the jetting forum on how to adjust the pilot screw. There is no "one size fits all" setting.

The stock jet is usually a 42 and its usually correct regardless if youve got an aftermarket pipe or not. Even a HotCams cam wont typically impact the jetting too much.

The thread you want is stickied at the top of the jetting forum.

This thread pretty much answered most of my questions/thoughts.

I did want to mention that it is a pain in the arse trying to thread the filter retaining bolt when reinstalling the air filter. Any tips on alligning it besides lots of patience? The aligning tabs are kind of hokie also. I am a little paranoid that the rim of the filter isn't flush on the bottom since it's so tight in there and can't reach my fat fingers to check.

Hit up HomeDepot and get a 1/2" push plug. One of those sheet metal ones with the fingers on it.

then drill a hole in the air box opposite of the end of the air filter hold down screw. Then, go get an allen head replacement screw for the air filter thumb screw.

Drill the hole, put the allen screw in and with one hand you can hold the filter and with the other you can run the allen wrench ( the long end through the hole) in the allen screw and its a piece of cake.

Just resist the urge to overtighten the air filter since now you can get a decent hold on the screw.

What about tighting up the valves so they last longer?
