I picked up a new '06 a few weeks ago, and just wanted to relay my extremely positive impressions after two rides. Prior to the first ride, I had raised the forks, swapped out the front tire for a D756, adjusted the chain, and set the controls for my liking. My wrists hurt a little after the first ride, so I swapped the bars for the PT CR-mid bars on my CR250 which helped immensely (I'm used to more sweep than on the stockers). I also then swapped out the chain for a Renthal gold, fitted a One Industries 'Hurricane' kit, changed the oil, shaved the saddle, and changed out the grips. I also softened the fork comp one click during my second ride.

Coming off an '03 CR250, the YZ feels surprisingly familiar. It jumps beautifully, and feels as light, if not lighter than the CR in the air. It is more willing to rail a tight line than the CR, although the front end seems more sensitive to rider input in fast sweeping turns. The front end is also considerably more lively than the CR over acceleration bumps, but I think much of that is the comparable stiffness of the forks (I'm 160lbs in gear) and perhaps the fact that I haven't set the sag yet (doh). And even though my CR was ported and running increased compression and supporting power mods, the 450 is significantly quicker. I also own an '05 KTM525EXC and despite its relatively mild state of tune, the KTM actually feels like it hits much harder than the Yamaha. I attribute that to the silky smooth delivery of the YZF. It is deceptively fast.

Anyway, I was getting bored on the CR (and tired of getting roosted off the line) but the YZ has made moto fun again. I'm itching to get back out on it, but it snowed this past weekend..

That hurricane kit looks pretty good. Get some black wheels.

Looks great! The new 450 is awsome and can make almost any rider faster just by riding it. The whole bike is a complete package, add that to the reliability and I can't believe people would buy anthing else.

It was a standard blue model, not the LE. I've made it a habit with my last few bikes of pulling off the OE plastics when new, and with the YZ it was a good excuse to get the yellow which I really dig.
