I have now destroyed two front brake lines within the last few months and want to go with the CR line.  The first time was the stock line with the hard line underneath and the second line was a Galfer made for the klx but it eliminates the hard line.  I also have the FSW brake line guard but the rocks we ride in have just not been nice to me.  I was going to buy a line for a 2000 CR 250R but have seen that Galfer makes a CR type conversion line for KX 125/250s.  Does anyone know which line may work or fit the best?  Would the KX line even fit the KLX?
Thanks

Has anyone done the brake line conversion lately?  From searching the archives it looks like the 2000 CR 250R was the line to use.  Now I'm finding a couple of companies make a CR line for the 94-03 KX line and Ride Engineering makes a nice clamp and cable in which the clamp bolts to the KX fork guards which I have on my KLX.  Just not sure which line to get.

Maybe you can be the guinea pig. Try one, see what happens, & report back. Actually, I remember a thread on this on PlanetKLX a couple of years ago. You could try doing a search.

OK, I'm going to be the guinea pig.  I ordered the CR type line for the 94-03 KX 125/250/500 at the recommendation of Ride Engineering.  They said the only difference in the two lines is the KX line has the hard sheath a little further down to mount the clamp away from the top of the fork guard which should make it a little more stable.  I'll let everyone know how it goes when finished.

Good luck.I made an aluminum guard that so far has kept my brake line out of the rotor. Where you at in Cali?

I'm in Central Ca.  Usually ride at Clear Creek and Pozo.  I have the FSW front brake guard which has worked as designed but last time had problems around the guard.  A rock broke the line clamp and the rotor shredded the stainless line.  Both my failures would have been avoided with the CR style line so I'm hoping it works out.

I'm in Mendocino County; I ride So. Cow Mtn & Middle Creek OHV park (CC Camp). I do lots of rocks also, my KLX just shines in the rough stuff.

Got the Ride Engineering brake line and clamp installed today.  Seems to be all OK.  The CR type lines are shorter so you can't use the upper guide attached to the upper triple clamp.  I had to start in the one on the lower clamp.  Going for a ride on Sunday, if it's not raining too hard, and will post back how it works out.

AgoosSS,

I'm also interested in that set-up you are doing:ride: .  So what was your decision after riding, is it worth it?  What modification need to be made to accept the CR line and how does it route?

Any chance of getting some pics of this mod?  What part numbers did you use?

Thanks in advance.

Just got back from my first ride with the new brake line.  Got rained out last time.  Everything worked great.  I would say if you ever have to replace your brake line or are worried about damaging the stock line, it is definitely the way to go.  It routes the brake line like all the new off road/mx bikes.  The Ride Engineering part numbers are MX-BLC00-BA for the black brake line clamp and BL-00012-CL for the brake line. The brake line is for a 94-03 KX 125/250/500 CR conversion.  I ordered a black clamp but got a red clamp instead.  I went ahead and used the red clamp because of the pending ride that ended up being rained out.  The clamps only come in black and red.  You must use the  94-03 KX fork guards and guide for this system to work.  It  eliminates using the guide on the brake line guard so you only need the guide for the right side.  I can't do photos here but can send pics if you send me a pm with your email address.  I can take photos later this weekend and will send them to someone also if they want to post them for this thread.

Agooss,

Thank you for the update and pics:applause: .

From the pics it looks like I could do this mod with just the brake line and lower fork leg line clamp.  Why is it that new fork guards are required?  Can I not just drill and bolt the line clamp (part #MX-BLC00-BA )onto the existing guard?

FYI I cannot look at my bike to reference so sorry if this questions seems ignorant.

thanks.

I had the KX fork guards before I did the brake line conversion.  I looked at my old guards and the way they are shaped, it may be difficult to find a flat spot for the line clamp.  Maybe on the right side as you are looking at it.  The KX brake line goes on the outside of the guard as opposed to the inside using the KLX line.  There will be visible holes from the line holder part of the KLX guard which may also be used to attach the line.  It can probably be done with some adaption.  The other potential problem is the KLX fork guards are very brittle and don't flex like the KX guards and they may shatter or crack if you try and drill into them.  If you were to use the KLX guards I think I would try and attach to the existing holes from the line holders.  A piece of safety wire or a zip tie may work.  Hope you can make sense of my rambling.
