Lots run the foam UNI for a filter. I personally have a K&N one. People put metal screen over the snorkel hole to filter.

135main 48pilot most start with that after gordons mods. Im not sure though with you cause of your elevation. Someone else might know.

Yes. Used this kit:

and added:
http://trailtech.net/endurance.html

Don't install the rear light from Baja, you can easily re-wire the existing light to take a two element bulb (brake & running light).

Just take/drill out the baffle, its the only way to do it, leave the spark arrestor intact too :ride:

Just did these mods to a 2001 XR250R, wow what a difference!  I am still running the stock air filter (the Uni is on order), but removing the pathetic CA 122 main jet alone was well worth it.  I did the exhaust grinding with a carbide cutter in a cordless Dremel, and it went pretty quickly.
Thanks for the post.  Knowledge is power - in this case a lot more power....

A 36mm Mikuni like the one off of an 05 DRZ400SM? I have the stock carb which is a 36mm Mik that I trade out for a FCRMX carb, so if that'll fit I'd love to stick that on the XR!

Anyone here got any experience with useing the FCR39 carb on a XR400?
I found one locally (I think it's from a YZ/WR400) for about 2 hundred bucks but I'd like to know jetting spec's, cables etc for my 1999 XR400?

Lots of really good info here for power. But, I need suspension help to use the power I have. Woods use, 196lb sr B rider. My bike has Pro Action mods springs and valving that were done for my weight when I bought it. Have since found the shock spring is really suited for a 250 pounder. Would like to hear some shim stacks for the stock forks and springs I need. Think I'll take the shock to a pro. Thanks.
