Yeah, done by someone who figured "if 3 is good, 20 has to be better".

Right around the '99 year model, Gordon Banks is a guy that did some experimenting on his XR400s intake and exhaust, trying different mods and configurations, calculating volumetric efficiency and air flow of each and documenting the results. The Gordon Mods we have today are the culmination of that effort. The best configuration he came up with for the stock components.

I have a question, I finally pulled the snorkel out of my 02 xr400. I have the uni filter and  58/155 jetting right now and the bike seems to be pulling better with the snorkel out. Wouldn't it make sense to richen the needle one notch? I still have to drill the holes in my exhaust tip. It seems to me that it would only make sense to richen the needle a notch? Do I have to pull the carb to get to the needle or can I just loosen the clamps and turn it? Thanks!

This is a bit late mate, but go and do all your free mods first, then look at the jetting, it will save time in the long run.

I started doing the Gordon mods on my '97 XR400 and I noticed that the exhaust tip I have is for the newer bikes....(no removable insert)
Why could this be?
