A question for the little guys

Yep another long time lurker, blah, blah, blah.

I'm 5'6 140, '05 wr450, she's a bit tall for me, so I thought I would deflate the tires so I could touch the ground, any thoughts?

Just kidding about the tires, I did see an ad in dirt rider about a modified rocker link, it would lower the bike 1.5 inches, any shorties like myself try it?

Modifying the suspension via a new link is one choice, then slide the fork tubes up in the fork clamps a bit. Another thing to consider is changing out the springs front and back, from the factory the 06 WR is set up for a 180 pound rider...at 140 lbs you are not compressing the suspension much when you straddle the bike. You also should adjust the sag for your weight.

You can also trim the seat down. It not only lowers it but you get a softer seat this way. I think the surface foam is harder because of the finish on it by cutting this away it allows the seat to flex more. Here's a pic of mine after cutting the seat.

If you decide to do this the best method is using an electric carving knife and then smooth it and contour it with a random orbit sander.

Easiest way to lower the bike is to put on some weight. Strict diet of donuts, sugary drinks, beer, and all things deep-fried. The bike will be sagged down in no time!!

IN my case I had Full Cirle redo both ends of my suspension completely

stiffer shock spring

rebuild shock valving and seals

stock fork springs

rebuild fork valving and seals

fresh juice

Call Dave Lampmann fo rin depth of how active reach works. IN laymans terms it reduces the overall hieght (i want to say using a captured spring type setup) and reduce the seat height without limiting overlll travel.

Suspension is really kinda like vodoo to me that's why I went to a pro tuner to lower for me.

Total cost including a COMPLETE suspension rebuild and service came it at about 450. I think the active reach by itself comes in around 200, but he did my almost two years ago so prices may have changed a little.

I've been very pleased with the setup.

Norman Kouba (koubalink.com) makes lowering links for pretty much everything except for yamaha yz's and wr's. That said, if you've got something else that needs to be lowered, kouba links are the way to go. They're really quality stuff and they work fantastically (assuming you lower the front forks in the triple clamps as well. I've even heard thru the grapevine they actually increase suspension travel, but just briefly thinking about it that contention sounds unlikely. I haven't really bothered to apply the trig necessary...

They've got the lower link for our bikes, assuming they're a 2001 or newer. Not sure how much they lower the bike, tho...
