90 XR600R wheel on an 87??

Will it fit?? I want to get an 18 wheel for better tire choices and need to know it this is a viable option.

I think the 90 was the last year of drum...if so they are both drum. I think they are identical hubs....now wait a minute....are you asking if the 90XR600R wheel will fit on the 87 XL600R?

No, 90 XR600R rear wheel on an 87 XR600R.

The rear wheel from the 90 will work on your 87. But as far as the xL, i'm thinking no because the XL used a cushioned drive for the sproket. Where the XR is solid to the hub.

I was told by XR's Only...I know, I know... that the axle diameters would be different. How do I find out for sure?

FWIW Bearings are shared by 85-90 model years.
